To summarize, the toll gantry was reportedly being erected near the Gohtong Jaya roundabout, which leads to Batang Kali. It was stated that road users would be required to pay a toll fee ranging from RM2.50 to RM3.50 to access Genting Highlands. A local merchant in the area also expressed his apprehension about this development, as the road to Genting has been freely accessible to the public for many decades.

Although the construction of the toll gantry has commenced, many Malaysians who regularly travel to Genting may receive some positive updates.
Toll Gantry Construction Halted
Following the widespread circulation of images of the toll gantry on social media and extensive coverage by various media outlets, the Bentong Municipal Council (MPB) revealed that they have initiated measures in response to the construction of the toll gantry close to Gohtong Jaya.

MPB has declared that the construction of the gantry was unauthorized, leading to the issuance of a strict stop-work order. They pointed out that the developers had failed to obtain the necessary approvals and had not adhered to the required conditions before commencing construction. Additionally, the developer had omitted crucial documentation, such as a building plan, planning permission, and detailed information on piping and road layouts.
To clarify the situation, it was conveyed that the intended use of the gantry was for toll booths. However, it was emphasized that MPB does not possess the authority to grant approval for the collection of toll charges on the road or in the area. Should such plans be pursued, they must be presented to the Pahang government and discussed during a state executive council (exco) meeting. Furthermore, any monetary collections at the tolls must undergo consultation with the Ministries of Finance and Transport.

Despite the absence of any formal proposal for the implementation of a one-way toll charge to Genting Highlands, reports have indicated that Lingkaran Cekap Sdn Bhd, the current entity responsible for road maintenance in Genting, would assume responsibility for toll operations if the toll booths were to be established.
With escalating tensions and ongoing concerns surrounding the toll gantry, there is mounting pressure on authorities to provide clarification and ensure adherence to proper procedures in future projects in the vicinity of Genting Highlands.
Leong Yu Man, the Chairman of the Pahang Unity, Tourism, and Culture Committee, expressed his surprise, highlighting that this matter had never been discussed in state executive council meetings. He stated, "There is no official information available regarding the news report. The state government has never deliberated on the toll proposal. I am currently gathering more details on the issue and will seek additional information."
Regarding the argument that the gantry's purpose is to generate funds for the area, it is considered implausible given that Genting has not faced financial difficulties. Some have contended that if a toll were to be introduced in Genting, it would primarily benefit certain individuals, suggesting that the Gombak toll should be abolished. However, it's essential to remember that the Gombak toll serves the purpose of collecting funds for the maintenance of the 358 km-long Lebuhraya Pantai Timur, which connects the East and West regions of peninsular Malaysia.

In the past, the concept of establishing a hill resort was initiated by the late Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong in the 1960s, offering urban dwellers a retreat from the heat and an opportunity to relish the cooler climate. The construction of the road commenced from 1965 to 1969, originally planned to be 20 kilometres in length but later extended to 30 kilometres to ensure a safer incline.
Presently, if you visit Genting, you'll notice extensive ongoing developments, with continuous maintenance efforts focused on enhancing the safety of the roads and the surrounding area. Additionally, in the forthcoming years, many individuals may find themselves frequenting Genting more frequently due to an upcoming project known as Tropicana Windcity.

The Malaysian government is set to roll out a two-tier pricing system for RON95 fuel by mid-2025, utilising MyKad as the primary tool for determining subsidy eligibility. This move is part of a broader effort to transition from a blanket subsidy to a more targeted approach. Finance Minister II, Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, confirmed that the system is in its final stages of development and is expected to be officially implemented in the second half of the year.
&ldquo;As I have answered multiple times in the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara, the mechanism is still being refined,&rdquo; Amir Hamzah stated. &ldquo;We do not want to pre-announce something while we are still working on it because the most important thing is to ensure that the system is robust.&rdquo;
Two-Tier Pricing: Who Will Benefit?

Under this new system, fuel prices will be divided into subsidised and non-subsidised rates. The MyKad system will serve as the verification tool at petrol stations, ensuring that only eligible individuals receive the fuel subsidy. This approach aims to curb misuse and ensure subsidies reach those who genuinely need them, aligning with the government's broader economic reform efforts.

This number is set to increase significantly to 5.4 million recipients by April 2025.
&ldquo;If we can use MyKad for 5.4 million recipients with 3,500 stores, it&rsquo;s not that different and we could also use the same system for RON95,&rdquo; said Amir Hamzah, stressing that the system has already demonstrated its effectiveness.
Government&rsquo;s Plan to Save RM8 Billion Annually

From 1st April 2025, all applications for hiking and recreational activities in Selangor&rsquo;s Permanent Reserve Forests (HSK) must be made online via the Selangor Forestry e-Permit System (SeForest). This move, announced by the Selangor Forestry Department on 20th March, aims to simplify the permit application process, making it more accessible, efficient, and environmentally friendly by reducing paperwork.
Previously, hikers and outdoor lovers had to download and complete a form, submit it via email or in person at a forestry district office, and make payments through bank draft, postal order, or cash at the counter. With SeForest, the entire process is now digital, ensuring a faster and more convenient experience.
Which Locations Require an ePermit?

How to Apply for an ePermit

Strict Penalties for Illegal Entry

Since 1st September 2024, restrictions have been in place regarding the maximum number of visitors allowed per day in 43 recreational and hiking sites across Selangor&rsquo;s Permanent Reserve Forests. This measure was introduced to reduce environmental strain and protect the delicate ecosystems within these reserves.
The daily visitor cap varies based on the size and ecological sensitivity of each forest reserve, with limits ranging from 150 to 300 people per day. Additionally, certain locations require hikers to hire a certified mountain guide (Malim Gunung Perhutanan) before attempting specific trails to ensure safety and environmental conservation.
Temporary Closures for Hari Raya Aidilfitri
