For every Malaysian, aspiring to attend college or university to pursue higher education is crucial, and earning a place in a reputable institution typically requires diligent effort in achieving high grades in the SPM exams.
However, despite the abundance of public and private institutions in the country to support their career aspirations, many students face disappointment in securing spots at public universities despite excelling academically. Addressing this issue, Prime Minister Dato&rsquo; Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced encouraging news for students aspiring to enrol in Matriculation programs.
Students With 10As To Be Given A Spot In Matriculation

During the National Training Week (NTW) 2024 at Bukit Jalil National Stadium, Anwar declared that students achieving 10As or more in SPM will be assured a place in matriculation colleges across the country. He emphasised that this new policy was endorsed during a Cabinet meeting and will be implemented starting from the 2025 intake. Anwar also reaffirmed that all Malaysians, irrespective of their ethnic background, will have an equitable chance to secure admission to matriculation colleges.

&ldquo;All of our children, when I say children, I mean Malay, Chinese, Indian, Dayak, Kadazan and all without exception. If our children scored 10As and above or obtained excellent results, without any exception, they will get a place. This is an assurance from the government.
&ldquo;With this in place, the issue of racial tensions will be eased. The Education Ministry (MOE) and Higher Education Ministry (MOHE) will collaborate to further smoothen out the method and will announce its implementation soon,&rdquo; he said.
No Quotas Will Be Affected
After Anwar's announcement, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil took to Facebook to emphasise that the existing Bumiputera quota, including the current 90% admission quota, will remain unaffected by the new policy.

This policy persisted under Article 153 of the Federal Constitution, which mandates the Agong to protect the special position of Malays and natives of Sabah and Sarawak, alongside ensuring the legitimate interests of other communities through quotas in civil services, public scholarships, and education.
Anwar emphasised that the Madani government aims for national progress, advocating for a meritocratic system that promotes capable individuals while addressing the needs of the underprivileged and marginalized.
Akmal Saleh Thinks Otherwise For The Spots For Non-Bumi Students

UMNO Youth Chief Dr. Muhammad Akmal Saleh expressed a contrasting view following the widespread public support for the initiative. In a Facebook post, he acknowledged the initiative to broaden access to matriculation programs for all SPM graduates regardless of ethnicity, while emphasising the importance of Malay fluency as a prerequisite for enrollment.
Additionally, Akmal urged the government to reconsider allocating additional matriculation slots specifically for Bumiputera students in proportion to those offered to non-Bumiputera students. "If there are 1,000 additional slots for non-Bumiputera students," he argued, "an equivalent number should be added to the existing Bumiputera quota."

Over 30 officers took part in combing the site, and at approximately 5pm, a body was found face-down in a partially submerged lift shaft at one of the still-under-construction blocks.

The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 6.05pm and swiftly deployed a team from the Subang Jaya fire station.
According to Assistant Director of Operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, the man was found unconscious beneath the train tracks and was pronounced dead at the scene. Initial confusion surrounded his identity and the circumstances of the incident, but authorities later confirmed his nationality and retrieved his passport from the scene.
CCTV Footage Points to Accident

Now, it&rsquo;s finally getting its moment here with Malaysia&rsquo;s very first Inter-University Pickleball Tournament, and it&rsquo;s happening right in the heart of Klang Valley this July 2025.
If you&rsquo;ve never heard of pickleball before, you&rsquo;re not alone &mdash; but that&rsquo;s the point. This tournament is not just for seasoned players. It&rsquo;s designed for beginners and curious students who want to try something new, have a laugh, and maybe get a bit competitive while they&rsquo;re at it.
What&rsquo;s the Big Deal About Pickleball?

Pickleball has been dubbed the fastest-growing sport in the United States, with celebrities and athletes singing its praises. The upcoming Inter-Uni Tournament, organised by Monsta Asia and sponsored by JD Sports, is hoping to do just that: unite students from across Klang Valley in a fast-paced weekend of rallies, smashes, and plenty of banter.
And it&rsquo;s not just a one-off event &mdash; the tournament is built around a whole calendar of lead-up activities. Throughout May, participating students have been able to join Bootcamp sessions, where they can learn the basics and get a feel for the game. Then in June, casual Open Uni Games give players a chance to warm up, get social, and meet fellow pickleballers before the real competition begins.
The main event kicks off 12 and 13 July at The Pickle Grounds, One World Hotel, with Mixed Doubles and Men&rsquo;s Doubles categories open to Novice-level players (defined as a DUPR rating below 3.25). Each of the five participating universities will send six teams per category, turning the weekend into a showdown of pride, skill, and hopefully not too many unforced errors.

It&rsquo;s also a refreshing addition to the university event calendar. While most inter-varsity competitions stick to traditional sports, this one is all about discovery, inclusion, and having fun &mdash; with just the right amount of heat to keep it exciting.

Pickleball Fever Hits Klang Valley: Malaysia’s First Inter-Uni Tournament Arrives This July

What began as an ordinary late-night drive through the streets of George Town turned into a terrifying ordeal for a young woman, after a confrontation on the road allegedly escalated into a violent and humiliating assault involving a firearm. The alleged assailant? A man bearing the prestigious title of &lsquo;Datuk Seri&rsquo;.
The shocking incident, which unfolded in the early hours of 1 June, has not only sparked public outrage but also raised troubling questions about the ease with which influential individuals in Malaysia obtain and wield firearms &mdash; sometimes, quite literally, against unarmed members of the public.
Pistol Allegedly Shoved Into Victim&rsquo;s Mouth

According to the police report filed by the 28-year-old victim, the confrontation escalated rapidly and turned violent. The suspect was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time. He is said to have brandished a gold-coloured pistol and, in a deeply disturbing act of aggression and humiliation, forced the weapon into the woman's mouth.
He then allegedly pistol-whipped her, using the grip of the firearm to strike her face, causing severe injuries. The suspect also reportedly punched her repeatedly in the face using both the weapon and his bare hands. The victim sustained a broken nose and bruising around her left eye as a result of the attack.
Following the incident, she received emergency treatment at Penang General Hospital before filing a formal complaint with the Northeast District Police at 5.57pm the same day.
Suspect Turns Himself In, Firearm and Licence Confiscated

Two days after the violent episode, on 3 June, the suspect turned himself in at the Northeast District Police Headquarters at approximately 9.30am. Police confirmed that he was taken into custody and that a pistol, its magazine, and his licence to possess the weapon and ammunition were seized as part of the investigation.
Northeast District Police Chief, ACP Abdul Rozak Muhammad, confirmed the details in an official statement. The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt using a dangerous weapon, and Section 34 of the Arms Act 1960, which prohibits the use or possession of firearms while intoxicated.
