Remember when cinemas were packed to watch "Avengers: Infinity War" and witness the emotional ending for Tony Stark, aka Iron Man? Interestingly, during the final scene, many cast members were unaware of what they were filming as directors told them they were filming a wedding scene, making their reactions genuine and more impactful for both the actors and the audience.

However, Robert Downey Jr. is set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), but not as Iron Man. Instead, he will portray Doctor Doom in a new "Avengers" movie titled "Avengers: Doomsday," directed by Joe and Anthony Russo. This film will introduce Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom and will be followed by another Russo-directed film, "Avengers: Secret Wars."
While Downey had hinted at a possible return to Marvel, fans assumed he would reprise his role as Iron Man. His comeback as the villainous Doctor Doom surprised many, especially the ecstatic audience at Marvel's San Diego Comic-Con presentation. Downey made a triumphant appearance at Hall H to announce his return.

Downey first appeared as Tony Stark in 2008&rsquo;s "Iron Man," the inaugural film in the interconnected Marvel Cinematic Universe. Over 11 years, he reprised the role in 10 Marvel films, including "Iron Man 2," "Iron Man 3," "The Avengers," and "Avengers: Endgame," where Iron Man met his end. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige emphasized that they would preserve the integrity of Stark's emotional exit.
&ldquo;We are going to keep that moment and not touch that moment again,&rdquo; Feige stated. &ldquo;We all worked very hard for many years to get to that, and we would never want to magically undo it in any way.&rdquo;
Despite Iron Man's farewell, Downey expressed openness to returning to Marvel. Speaking to Esquire magazine after his Oscar win for &ldquo;Oppenheimer,&rdquo; Downey said, &ldquo;Happily. It&rsquo;s too integral a part of my DNA. That role chose me. And look, I always say, &lsquo;Never, ever bet against Kevin Feige.&rsquo; It is a losing bet. He&rsquo;s the house. He will always win.&rdquo;

Downey's portrayal of Victor von Doom adds to an impressive year for the actor. His performance in "Oppenheimer" earned him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He also starred in HBO&rsquo;s mini-series &ldquo;The Sympathizer,&rdquo; earning an Emmy nomination for his roles.
Marvel Studios made a spectacular return to San Diego Comic-Con with exciting news about upcoming films. Robert Downey Jr.'s reveal as Doctor Doom capped a jubilant return to Hall H. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige announced that the MCU had surpassed $30 billion in box office earnings, aided by the success of "Deadpool &amp; Wolverine," which set a record for Thursday preview earnings.
Feige also detailed the future of the MCU, including the next "Avengers" movies, "Doomsday" and "Secret Wars," both directed by the Russo brothers. The panel introduced various actors who will appear in these films and teased new projects, including "Captain America: Brave New World" and "The Fantastic Four."

Not The Only Return For One Iconic Marvel Character and Actor
If you've watched Deadpool &amp; Wolverine, you might have been pleasantly surprised by the unexpected return of Chris Evans, who originally played the Human Torch in Fantastic Four. Despite his past success in this role, Evans found greater fame as Captain America.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly after his appearance at Comic-Con, Evans expressed his excitement about donning the suit again. He revealed that Ryan Reynolds personally reached out to him, saying:
"Listen, might be a long shot, but would you have any interest in reprising something from 20 years ago?' I said, 'Oh my God! Of course.'"
Evans continued, "Honestly, Ryan might be the only guy that I would've done it for because he's just got the Midas touch. His self-awareness makes him almost invincible. He makes the joke before the audience gets a chance to make the joke, so if you're going to revisit a character and you have to find a way to make it work, Ryan's humour makes just about everything work, so you feel an automatic sense of safety."
The best part for Evans was that he only had to fly in for a couple of days of filming. He admitted that his cameo was pretty easy and that wearing the form-fitting blue suit was quite the experience since it&rsquo;s &ldquo;slightly&rdquo; improved. Playing the Human Torch brought back fond memories for Evans, marking a significant chapter in his life as his first major studio film at the age of 23, which he looks back on with love and affection.

With Disney&rsquo;s Marvel Studios now owning the rights to the Fantastic Four, another cinematic outing is in the works, featuring big names like Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.
It seems like the MCU is gearing up for an exciting adventure, but the big question remains: how will they align all the heroes&rsquo; and villains&rsquo; timelines?
