There's a saying that parents will go to any lengths to ensure their children's safety and happiness. With the increasing concerns about child safety, many parents are reluctant to let their kids attend events alone and often accompany them to provide that extra layer of protection.
This brings up an intriguing question: how far would a parent go to ensure their child's safety? For one Singaporean father, his commitment to safeguarding his daughter led him to take an extraordinary measure that ultimately landed both him and his daughter in hot water.
Singaporean Father Pretends To Be A Royal Bodyguard To Protect His Daughter

Recently, news came about after a Singaporean man devised an elaborate scheme to ensure his teenage daughter's safety and skip the queue at a K-pop concert. His plan, however, backfired, resulting in a hefty fine. The 49-year-old father, whose identity is protected to safeguard his underage daughter, concocted a plan for his daughter to pose as a princess from the Selangor royal family. He intended to escort her as her bodyguard to the Enhypen World Tour concert at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
In January 2024, the man&rsquo;s 17-year-old daughter secured tickets for two concert dates. Wanting to ensure her safety and help her avoid long queues, he contacted Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG), the event organizers. Claiming to be a bodyguard for a Selangor princess, he requested special access for the two concert dates, explaining the need for enhanced security for the "royal" attendee.
The event organizers, unsuspecting of the deceit, instructed the man to arrive early on January 20. Dressed in a suit to look the part, he accompanied his daughter and her friend to the venue. Upon arrival, he reiterated his role as the princess's bodyguard and was given a lanyard and two wristbands for early entry. The teenage girls used their valid tickets to enter the venue.
During the concert, the man positioned himself at the entrance to keep an eye on his daughter. However, suspicions arose when an event manager at the Singapore Sports Hub noticed inconsistencies in the man's story. After verifying that the girl was not a Selangor princess, the organizers reported the incident to the police.

When the trio returned for the second concert the following day, the police were waiting. The man was subsequently charged with conspiring to cheat by personation. Despite his actions being driven by a concern for his daughter&rsquo;s safety, he was fined S$5,000 (~RM17,181) on July 29, 2024.

In court, the prosecutor acknowledged that the man had gained unauthorized access to the venue but noted that he did not act with malicious intent and that no financial loss was incurred by the organizers. Representing himself, the man expressed deep regret and requested a reduced fine, emphasizing his concern for his daughter's well-being.
Ultimately, the man faced the possibility of up to five years in jail, a fine, or both for his offence. His case serves as a cautionary tale about the consequences of deceit, even when driven by protective instincts.
This incident highlights the lengths some parents will go to ensure their children's safety and comfort, even if it means bending the rules. The father&rsquo;s actions, though well-intentioned, crossed legal boundaries, leading to significant repercussions. As the court concluded, safeguarding a child's safety should never come at the expense of honesty and integrity.
Despite the hefty fine, the father can take comfort in knowing his daughter was safe. Looking back, he might have found a better approach by contacting the concert organizers honestly. Many events do allow parents or guardians to attend with their children and even offer designated areas for supervision.
