Global pop star and entrepreneur Rihanna has been put under the spotlight after her hugely successful makeup brand Fenty Beauty was found to have been using mica from mines which hire child labour in India.
This news arose after Rihanna was officially declared a billionaire by Forbes due to her business empire of her Fenty Beauty makeup and cosmetics line alongside her Savage x Fenty lingerie line.

However, the news of her billionaire status and success was quickly tarnished after the NGO Legal Rights Observatory (LRO) filed a complaint with the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) against Fenty Beauty which alleged that Fenty Beauty uses mica, a mineral ingredient commonly found in cosmetic products to add a shimmering or sparkling effect, and that the mica used in Fenty Beauty came from mines in Jharkhand, India where child labourers work in dire conditions.

According to LRO, certificate agencies ascertain whether mica used is free of child labour but reports say that Fenty Beauty do not have the supply chain clearance certification needed to prove that they do not associate with child labour for the mining of their mica.
@panafrikam on Twitter tweeted out saying &ldquo;They call Rihanna a self-made billionaire, but come to find out Fenty Beauty has Indian children manning mica mines. Goes to show there is no gross capital accumulation without exploitation.&rdquo;
