One of the winners, Jenny Yee, walked away with a Labubu figure after spending RM15 on Asam Laksa.
However, the excitement quickly turned into suspicion. Yee claimed the doll she had won was counterfeit. She contacted the stall, voicing her concerns. The stall&rsquo;s owner, unfamiliar with collectable verification, assured her the toys had been purchased from a trusted reseller, Labubu Toy Store, and recommended verifying the serial number through the official PopMart website. When the verification confirmed the doll&rsquo;s authenticity, Yee allegedly rejected the findings and continued to insist it was fake.
The Role of Social Media in Escalating the Dispute

Unconvinced by the verification results, Yee turned to social media to voice her frustrations. Her posts on Facebook, Instagram, and Xiaohongshu accused the reseller, Labubu Toy Store, of mixing counterfeit Labubu dolls with genuine ones. However, she clarified that her grievances were directed at the reseller and not My Asam Laksa, her posts caused unintended collateral damage.

<li>Public Apology: Yee is required to issue an apology on her Instagram, Xiaohongshu, and Facebook accounts. The apology must remain visible for a month and must be pre-approved by the store&rsquo;s legal representatives.</li>
<li>Monetary Compensation: The reseller is demanding RM500,000 in damages, citing the financial and reputational harm caused by Yee&rsquo;s allegations.</li>
<li>Content Removal: Yee must permanently delete all posts, comments, and photos related to the allegations, including those that do not explicitly name the reseller.</li>
<li>Cease-and-Desist Order: She must refrain from making further accusations against Labubu Toy Store.</li>
</ol>
The reseller emphasized the importance of protecting their business reputation and maintaining customer trust, urging Yee to comply to avoid further legal action.
The Fallout: Divided Opinions and a Cautionary Tale
The incident has sparked widespread debate, with opinions divided. Supporters of Yee argue that consumers have a right to question the authenticity of products and hold businesses accountable.
