ASEAN Summit 2025

Public transport operator Rapid KL will be extending and enhancing its rail operations between 23 and 27 May 2025, in conjunction with the 46th ASEAN Summit set to take place in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. The temporary changes are designed to manage a significant rise in commuter traffic and facilitate seamless travel for both local passengers and foreign delegates attending the high-level summit.
One-Hour Extension of Peak Rail Services

To better serve passengers during the ASEAN Summit, Rapid KL will implement a one-hour extension to its weekday peak-hour rail operations throughout the five-day event.
<ul>
<li>Morning peak hours will run from 6.30am to 10.00am (previously 7.00am to 9.30am)</li>
<li>Evening peak hours will extend from 4.30pm to 8.00pm (previously 5.00pm to 7.30pm)</li>
</ul>
The adjustments apply to all major Rapid KL rail lines, including the Kelana Jaya, Ampang/Sri Petaling, Kajang, Putrajaya, and KL Monorail lines. The move is expected to benefit daily commuters and help disperse travel loads more efficiently, especially during the early morning rush and evening return hours.
Enhanced Weekend Train Frequencies
In addition to the extended operating hours on weekdays, Rapid KL will also increase train frequencies on Saturday, 24 May, and Sunday, 25 May, when summit-related activities and city tourism are expected to peak.
<ul>
<li>Trains on the Ampang/Sri Petaling Line will operate every 4 minutes (up from the usual 5-minute intervals)</li>
<li>The Kelana Jaya Line will see trains arriving every 5 minutes (reduced from 7 minutes)</li>
<li>The KL Monorail, Kajang Line, and Putrajaya Line will each run at 8-minute intervals (previously 10 minutes)</li>
</ul>
These frequency increases aim to reduce waiting times and overcrowding, ensuring that all passengers, whether commuting to work, attending summit events, or exploring the city, can travel comfortably and efficiently.
Additional Manpower and Operational Readiness
To ensure a high standard of service delivery throughout the summit period, Rapid KL has announced the deployment of 400 additional personnel across strategically selected rail stations. These staff members will be tasked with assisting passengers, providing guidance to ASEAN delegates, and maintaining order during peak times.
The transport operator also confirmed it will be actively monitoring passenger volumes and train operations in real time, with contingency measures in place should there be an unexpected surge in demand. Extra trains are on standby, ready to be dispatched if necessary.
This operational boost reflects Prasarana&rsquo;s commitment to providing a reliable and efficient transport system during one of the most important multilateral events hosted by Malaysia in recent years.
Bus Services Disrupted by Road Closures

While rail services are being upgraded, several Rapid KL bus routes will likely face delays and service interruptions due to phased and intermittent road closures enforced by traffic authorities for security and logistical reasons tied to the ASEAN Summit.
The affected routes include:

<li>Route 402: LRT Titiwangsa &ndash; LRT Maluri</li>
<li>Route 302: LRT Titiwangsa &ndash; KLCC</li>
<li>Route 300: Pandan Indah Hub &ndash; Lebuh Ampang</li>
<li>Route 303: Taman Mulia Jaya &ndash; Lebuh Ampang</li>
<li>Rapid KL On-Demand (Titiwangsa Zone): Titiwangsa &ndash; Chow Kit</li>
</ul>
Due to these expected disruptions, commuters are strongly advised to use rail transport wherever possible, particularly when heading to central destinations such as KLCC and nearby locations.
Recommended Rail Access to Key Areas

For those travelling to the KLCC area and other busy parts of the city, Rapid KL recommends the following nearby train stations for easier access:

<li>KLCC Station (Kelana Jaya Line)</li>
<li>Persiaran KLCC Station (Putrajaya Line)</li>
<li>Raja Chulan Station (KL Monorail)</li>
<li>Conlay Station (Putrajaya Line)</li>
<li>Bukit Bintang Station (Kajang Line &amp; KL Monorail)</li>
</ul>
These stations provide direct or nearby access to major hotels, conference centres, and shopping areas where ASEAN Summit events are expected to generate significant foot traffic.
Passenger Advisory: Plan Ahead, Stay Updated
Commuters are urged to plan their journeys in advance and factor in possible delays to ensure they arrive on time. Rapid KL has encouraged the public to stay informed via:

<li>The PULSE mobile app, which provides real-time updates on train and bus operations</li>
</ul>
Passengers are also advised to make full use of rail services and explore alternative travel times if possible to avoid peak-hour congestion.

The 46th ASEAN Summit is expected to bring together government leaders, diplomats, business representatives, and media from across Southeast Asia. As such, public transport will play a crucial role in supporting the logistics and mobility needs of the event.
City residents and workers are encouraged to cooperate by using public rail transport and minimising road travel in congested areas. Doing so will help ease traffic conditions, reduce delays, and contribute to the overall success of Malaysia&rsquo;s hosting of this important international gathering.
That said, road closures remain a challenge&mdash;especially for those whose workplaces are not easily accessible via public transport. With rail services still limited in coverage across certain parts of the city, many commuters may find themselves caught in the middle.
