Seems like the Langkawi Tourism City Municipal Council (MPLBP) are starting to point fingers at an illegal settlement in Bukit Malut and neighbouring countries as they are causing the seas around the Resort Island to be polluted.
Recently, a video has surfaced on the internet and had gone viral showing the state of the polluted sea.

MPLBP President Radzuan Osman had explained that the garbage seen floating around in the sea around the Island was washed out by the high tides of the ocean during the monsoon season.

When the ocean tide is high, it can reach the villages located in Bukit Malut and the trash that has been disposed by the residents were dragged into the sea. Additionally, part of the pollution had come from neighbouring countries which is evident as you can see it from the labels and branding.
With the presence of all the pollution around the island, this is a bad light for the island as it is one of Malaysia&rsquo;s premier domestic &ldquo;tourism bubble&rdquo; destination.
The MPLBP will immediately start to clean up the garbage patch to ensure the cleanliness of the sea.
The footage had raised the publics concerns
As you can see from the video, the local kayaker had paddled though the patch of garbage. You can spot plastic bottles and several other debris of garbage all over the area. He had pointed out on the island&rsquo;s landmarks where the garbage was seen floating which was around these specific locations:

The village of Bukit Malut is located 20 kilometres from the Island capital, Kuah. The area has been subjected of national interest since the early 80&rsquo;s.
The village is home to a community of around 10,000 residents and it is at the site of the Bukit Malut Mangrove Forest Reserve which is an important ecological landmark.
For perspective, the living conditions there lack many basic infrastructures and was even compared to the slums in Brazil and Mexico by Berita Harian.

The residents there consist of mostly Malay-Myanmmar residents, undocumented refugees from Rohingya and those who are United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) cardholders.
Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad had previously stressed that the people living in Bukit Malut were not &ldquo;new&rdquo; residents, but instead, the &ldquo;original&rdquo; residents of the island who consist of 80% fishermen. They are locals who had migrated to Thailand and Myanmar before returning to Langkawi.
In recent times, the Kedah State Government had announced plans to relocate Bukit Malut&rsquo;s residents to other parts of the island in the next five years. The island will also be <a href="https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2021/05/03/bukit-malut-residents-to-be-resettled-in-five-years">replaced</a> with tourism projects which includes the Langkawi Racing Circuit, resorts and hotels in the area.

It is said that the track will be the &ldquo;N&uuml;rburgring of the East&rdquo; and will place Langkawi on Asia&rsquo;s motorsports map. That&rsquo;s a bold statement but do they even have enough space for the track around the island though cause that&rsquo;s a 20.83KM long track.

Hopefully the pollution issue here will be resolved fast. On the other hands, I do hope that the village will get relocated properly as there will be many things to consider when needing to do so.

Malaysian police have confirmed that the decomposed body found at a construction site in Bangsar is that of Jordan Michael John Johnson-Doyle, a 25-year-old British software engineer who had been reported missing since 2 June.

The discovery was made during a search operation on 4 June, at a partially completed condominium along Lorong Maarof. The search was initiated after Johnson-Doyle&rsquo;s movements were traced to the area. Over 30 officers took part in combing the site, and at approximately 5pm, a body was found face-down in a partially submerged lift shaft at one of the still-under-construction blocks.

A post-mortem conducted at University Malaya Medical Centre revealed that the cause of death was a chest injury sustained from a fall from height.
&ldquo;There were no signs of foul play or criminal elements at the scene,&rdquo; said Rusdi. &ldquo;The case has been classified as a sudden death.&rdquo;
The body, which was discovered with most of its clothing removed, was recovered at around 9.30pm on the day of the search and taken for forensic examination.

He had sent a photograph from the bar to a friend, but after that, his phone went silent and his social media activity abruptly stopped. Concerned family members, unable to reach him, reported his disappearance to the authorities.
Staff at the bar confirmed his attendance that evening, but were unable to provide further details about his departure or movements afterward.

Singapore will be acquiring two plots of land currently owned by the Malaysian government as part of its ambitious redevelopment plan for the Woodlands Checkpoint &mdash; one of the busiest land border crossings in the world. A fatal accident involving a Taiwanese man who fell onto the Light Rail Transit (LRT) tracks at Pusat Bandar Puchong has prompted renewed scrutiny over safety standards at Malaysia&rsquo;s public transport hubs. Transport Minister Anthony Loke has since instructed Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, the LRT system operator, to accelerate the installation of platform screen doors across all LRT stations to prevent similar tragedies.
Evening Commute Turns Tragic

The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 6.05pm and swiftly deployed a team from the Subang Jaya fire station.
According to Assistant Director of Operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, the man was found unconscious beneath the train tracks and was pronounced dead at the scene. Initial confusion surrounded his identity and the circumstances of the incident, but authorities later confirmed his nationality and retrieved his passport from the scene.
CCTV Footage Points to Accident

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been informed to coordinate with the Taiwanese embassy to assist in notifying and supporting the victim&rsquo;s next of kin.

Move over futsal and badminton &mdash; there&rsquo;s a new sport in town, and it&rsquo;s rallying a community of young Malaysians. Pickleball, a quirky yet addictive mix of tennis, badminton, and ping pong, has been gaining traction around the world. Now, it&rsquo;s finally getting its moment here with Malaysia&rsquo;s very first Inter-University Pickleball Tournament, and it&rsquo;s happening right in the heart of Klang Valley this July 2025.

It&rsquo;s designed for beginners and curious students who want to try something new, have a laugh, and maybe get a bit competitive while they&rsquo;re at it.
What&rsquo;s the Big Deal About Pickleball?

Pickleball has been dubbed the fastest-growing sport in the United States, with celebrities and athletes singing its praises. It&rsquo;s easy to pick up, fun to play, and &mdash; perhaps most importantly &mdash; brings people together. The upcoming Inter-Uni Tournament, organised by Monsta Asia and sponsored by JD Sports, is hoping to do just that: unite students from across Klang Valley in a fast-paced weekend of rallies, smashes, and plenty of banter.
And it&rsquo;s not just a one-off event &mdash; the tournament is built around a whole calendar of lead-up activities. Throughout May, participating students have been able to join Bootcamp sessions, where they can learn the basics and get a feel for the game. Then in June, casual Open Uni Games give players a chance to warm up, get social, and meet fellow pickleballers before the real competition begins.
The main event kicks off 12 and 13 July at The Pickle Grounds, One World Hotel, with Mixed Doubles and Men&rsquo;s Doubles categories open to Novice-level players (defined as a DUPR rating below 3.25). Each of the five participating universities will send six teams per category, turning the weekend into a showdown of pride, skill, and hopefully not too many unforced errors.
Not Just a Sport &mdash; A Whole Vibe

It&rsquo;s also a refreshing addition to the university event calendar. While most inter-varsity competitions stick to traditional sports, this one is all about discovery, inclusion, and having fun &mdash; with just the right amount of heat to keep it exciting.

What began as an ordinary late-night drive through the streets of George Town turned into a terrifying ordeal for a young woman, after a confrontation on the road allegedly escalated into a violent and humiliating assault involving a firearm. The alleged assailant? A man bearing the prestigious title of &lsquo;Datuk Seri&rsquo;.
The shocking incident, which unfolded in the early hours of 1 June, has not only sparked public outrage but also raised troubling questions about the ease with which influential individuals in Malaysia obtain and wield firearms &mdash; sometimes, quite literally, against unarmed members of the public.
Pistol Allegedly Shoved Into Victim&rsquo;s Mouth

According to the police report filed by the 28-year-old victim, the confrontation escalated rapidly and turned violent. The suspect was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time. He is said to have brandished a gold-coloured pistol and, in a deeply disturbing act of aggression and humiliation, forced the weapon into the woman's mouth.
He then allegedly pistol-whipped her, using the grip of the firearm to strike her face, causing severe injuries. The suspect also reportedly punched her repeatedly in the face using both the weapon and his bare hands. The victim sustained a broken nose and bruising around her left eye as a result of the attack.
Following the incident, she received emergency treatment at Penang General Hospital before filing a formal complaint with the Northeast District Police at 5.57pm the same day.
Suspect Turns Himself In, Firearm and Licence Confiscated

Two days after the violent episode, on 3 June, the suspect turned himself in at the Northeast District Police Headquarters at approximately 9.30am. Police confirmed that he was taken into custody and that a pistol, its magazine, and his licence to possess the weapon and ammunition were seized as part of the investigation.
Northeast District Police Chief, ACP Abdul Rozak Muhammad, confirmed the details in an official statement. The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt using a dangerous weapon, and Section 34 of the Arms Act 1960, which prohibits the use or possession of firearms while intoxicated.
