New MyKad-Based Subsidy Mechanism

According to the Ministry of Finance (MOF), the new system will operate similarly to the existing BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) programme, where eligible Malaysians can access subsidised fuel prices through MyKad verification.
Under the revised mechanism, Malaysians who qualify for the subsidy will be able to purchase diesel at RM2.10 per litre, while non-citizens and those who do not meet the eligibility requirements will have to pay the market rate.
The government said the reform is designed to create a uniform subsidy system nationwide while reducing leakages and the smuggling of subsidised diesel.
&ldquo;Diesel subsidies will be channelled directly to Malaysians through MyKad verification, while non-citizens and ineligible parties must purchase diesel at the unsubsidised price,&rdquo; the ministry said.
Standardising Diesel Prices Across Malaysia

The announcement also introduces a significant change to the current diesel pricing structure between Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia.
At present, diesel prices in Peninsular Malaysia are floated weekly under the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM), while Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan continue to enjoy subsidised diesel priced at RM2.15 per litre.
Starting in July, the subsidised diesel price will be standardised nationwide at RM2.10 per litre for eligible Malaysians.
This means diesel vehicle owners in Sabah and Sarawak will see a reduction of five sen per litre from the current subsidised rate, while non-Malaysians in the region will no longer have access to subsidised diesel.
The government believes the nationwide implementation will ensure a fairer system where all eligible Malaysians enjoy the same price and purchasing mechanism regardless of where they live.
Tackling Leakages and Smuggling

The Ministry of Finance said the reform comes at a crucial time, particularly as global oil supplies continue to face pressure due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
According to the ministry, the large gap between subsidised and market-priced diesel has created opportunities for abuse, including leakages and cross-border smuggling activities.
Currently, unsubsidised diesel in Peninsular Malaysia is priced at RM4.37 per litre, more than double the newly announced subsidised rate.
By requiring MyKad verification at the point of purchase, the government hopes to close loopholes and ensure public funds are channelled directly to Malaysians who are entitled to receive assistance.
Significant Savings For Diesel Vehicle Owners

The new rate is expected to provide substantial savings for diesel vehicle owners, particularly in Peninsular Malaysia.
Based on current fuel prices, eligible motorists could save more than RM2.20 per litre compared to the prevailing market rate of RM4.37 per litre.
The move is also expected to benefit many individuals currently receiving diesel-related assistance through existing programmes such as BUDI Diesel, which provides monthly aid to eligible diesel vehicle owners, farmers and smallholders.
According to previous government data, BUDI Diesel has benefited around 340,000 eligible recipients, while the Subsidised Diesel Control System (SKDS) serves more than 398,000 logistics and public transport vehicles through a fleet card system.

Further details on the implementation of the diesel subsidy programme, including eligibility requirements, purchasing procedures and any potential usage quotas, are expected to be announced by Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.
For now, Malaysians can expect a nationwide diesel subsidy system that promises lower fuel costs, greater transparency and a more targeted approach to government assistance beginning this July.

The controversy began after the Road Transport Department (JPJ) reminded motorists that removable sunshades, curtains, blinds and similar accessories attached to vehicle windows while a vehicle is in motion could potentially constitute an offence under the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Certain Types of Glass) Rules 1991.
According to JPJ, such accessories may create blind spots, reduce a driver&rsquo;s field of vision and make it more difficult to observe surrounding traffic, pedestrians and changing road conditions. The department also noted that window coverings could hinder enforcement officers from observing activities inside a vehicle, including seatbelt usage and mobile phone violations.
The reminder led to widespread discussion across social media, with many Malaysians questioning why inexpensive mesh sunshades could potentially attract penalties while heavily tinted rear windows remain permissible under current regulations.
For many drivers, removable sunshades have become a practical solution to combat Malaysia&rsquo;s tropical heat. Basic clip-on or magnetic shades can be purchased for a relatively low cost, whereas premium heat-reducing tint films often cost significantly more.
Anthony Loke Clarifies Government&rsquo;s Position
In response to the growing confusion, Loke clarified that while provisions relating to removable sunshades do exist within current regulations, authorities are not actively targeting motorists who use them responsibly.
He explained that the Ministry of Transport has not instructed JPJ to carry out enforcement operations against motorists using removable sunshades that do not interfere with visibility.
According to the minister, JPJ&rsquo;s director-general has likewise not issued any directive requiring officers to take action against motorists simply for having removable sunshades installed.
Instead, enforcement action would only be considered if the accessory obstructs the driver&rsquo;s vision and creates a potential safety hazard on the road.
Road Safety Remains The Priority

While clarifying that sunshades are not currently an enforcement priority, Loke stressed that visibility remains an important safety consideration.
Drivers are still expected to ensure that any sunshade, curtain or window covering does not block their ability to see surrounding traffic, pedestrians, road signs, side mirrors or other critical sightlines needed for safe driving.
The minister explained that JPJ&rsquo;s current focus remains on offences that pose a much greater risk to public safety, including illegal street racing, mat rempit activities, drunk driving and reckless driving.
These offences, he said, have a far greater impact on road safety and therefore receive greater enforcement attention than removable sunshades.
Can Motorists Continue Using Sunshades?

Despite the clarification, some motorists have argued that uncertainty still exists because determining whether visibility is obstructed can sometimes be subjective.

However, according to the Malaysian creative team behind the display, the hornbill and rafflesia were never intended to be mistaken for real wildlife in the first place.
Representatives from Richard&rsquo;s Prestige Lighting &amp; Design (RPLD), the local company responsible for the project, explained that these were artistic installations designed to celebrate Malaysian nature and culture.

&ldquo;Not fake, it&rsquo;s called an installation,&rdquo; the team wrote in a social media post while responding to the criticism.
A Malaysian-Made Showcase Of Creativity

The team later shared behind-the-scenes photos and videos showing the amount of work that went into creating the displays.
According to RPLD, every component was produced from scratch by Malaysian artisans and craftsmen. The process involved mould-making, casting, sculpting and the installation of fibre optic lighting systems to bring the pieces to life.
The rafflesia structures were designed to illuminate at night, creating a different atmosphere within the transit area, while the hornbill was carefully handcrafted to serve as a symbolic representation of Malaysia&rsquo;s biodiversity.
The creators stressed that the installations were neither imported nor copied from elsewhere.

&ldquo;From the mould, to the casting, to the fibre optic wiring, everything was done by ourselves,&rdquo; the team explained.
Months of work reportedly went into completing the project, with staff spending long hours at KLIA1 to ensure every detail was installed correctly.
The team also addressed questions regarding visible black cables within the display, clarifying that these were fibre optic wires used for lighting effects and were designed to be both UV-resistant and water-resistant.
Netizens Rally Behind The Local Creators
Following the clarification, many Malaysians came to the defence of the installation team.
Several social media users argued that describing the pieces as &ldquo;fake&rdquo; misunderstood the purpose of an art installation, which is not meant to replicate reality perfectly but rather to create an immersive experience.
Others praised the craftsmanship behind the project and expressed pride in seeing locally made artwork showcased at one of Malaysia&rsquo;s main international gateways.
Many also felt that terms such as &ldquo;replica&rdquo; or &ldquo;art installation&rdquo; would have been more appropriate descriptions than simply calling the pieces &ldquo;fake&rdquo;.
For the creators, the project represents more than decorative airport features&mdash;it is a showcase of Malaysian talent, creativity and craftsmanship for both locals and international visitors.

Meanwhile, the number of students obtaining five As increased from 53 in 2024 to 60 in 2025, while those earning four As rose from 1,228 to 1,285 candidates.
The percentage of candidates achieving a full pass in four or five subjects also increased, reaching 77.64 per cent compared to 76.55 per cent the previous year.

The court ordered the bank to compensate the victim after concluding that the unusual activity on the customer&rsquo;s account should have raised red flags and prompted further investigation.
Court Finds Bank Negligent

Judge Maimoonah Aid ruled in favour of customer Chan Yan Li, allowing her civil claim against the bank and ordering Maybank to pay RM166,000 in damages.
The bank was also instructed to pay an additional RM15,000 in legal costs. The case stemmed from a series of unauthorised online banking transactions that took place between June and July 2021.
According to court documents, money was first transferred from Chan&rsquo;s housing loan account into her savings account before being moved in stages to several third-party accounts belonging to unknown individuals.
Chan only discovered the transactions nearly two weeks later, on 15 July 2021, after checking her Maybank2u account. She later lodged a police report over the incident.
Victim Denied Authorising Transfers

During proceedings, Chan maintained that she never approved the transfers and insisted she did not receive any Transaction Authorisation Code (TAC) messages or app notifications linked to the suspicious transactions.
However, Maybank denied wrongdoing and argued that all transactions were conducted using the correct username and password associated with Chan&rsquo;s account.
The bank also claimed that TAC messages and transaction alerts had been successfully sent to her registered mobile number, while maintaining there were no issues with the Maybank2u system.
In its defence, the bank further suggested that Chan&rsquo;s banking information may have been exposed due to negligence on her part.
Suspicious Activity Raised Red Flags

Despite the bank&rsquo;s arguments, the court found several inconsistencies during the trial. Judge Maimoonah pointed to contradictions between TAC records submitted by the bank and phone records provided by telecommunications company Digi.
The court also found that some transactions did not trigger SMS alerts, while several transfers were carried out during unusual hours, including around 5am.
In her judgment, the judge noted that Chan was not an active online banking user and only used the Maybank2u platform for basic transactions such as credit card payments and occasional money transfers to family members.
The sudden surge in account activity over a short period of time was deemed highly unusual and should have prompted the bank to conduct further checks or investigations.
&ldquo;The bank should remain vigilant,&rdquo; the judge stated in her grounds of judgment.
She added that banks today possess advanced technology capable of detecting and preventing suspicious or fraudulent transactions.
The court further heard that several mule account holders connected to the transfers had already pleaded guilty in separate criminal cases involving concealment of stolen property and possession of stolen items.
