Since launching the original Sambal Nyet Berapi in 2021, Khairul Aming has built one of Malaysia's most successful local food brands. The range later expanded with Dendeng Nyet Berapi and Rendang Nyet Berapi, but fans have been waiting six years for an entirely new sambal.
Now, that wait is over.
According to Khairul, Sambal Nyet Bilis offers a completely different flavour from its predecessor, featuring a richer recipe with more ingredients and a spicier, more aromatic taste.
Unlike the original Sambal Nyet Berapi, which relies heavily on red chillies, the new recipe uses 75% green chillies and 25% red chillies, creating a gentler yet more fragrant heat while maintaining its signature kick.
Fresh anchovies are the star ingredient, complemented by tomatoes, kaffir lime leaves and belacan to produce a sambal inspired by traditional Malaysian flavours.
Personally Sourcing Ingredients Across Malaysia

One of the highlights of the launch was Khairul Aming documenting his journey across Malaysia to source the best local ingredients personally.
Rather than simply purchasing raw materials, he travelled to Setiu, Terengganu, where he joined local fishermen out at sea to witness first-hand the demanding process of catching fresh anchovies. He explained that the experience gave him a greater appreciation for the hard work involved in producing what many Malaysians often consider an everyday ingredient.
He also visited chilli farms in Banting, Selangor, learning directly from local farmers about cultivating high-quality chillies before selecting those best suited for the new sambal recipe.
The approach reflects Khairul's continued emphasis on working closely with Malaysian suppliers while highlighting the people behind the country's food industry.
100% Malaysian From Farm To Factory

Khairul also revealed that every stage of production remains entirely local.
After sourcing ingredients from around the country, Sambal Nyet Bilis is produced at RASAPOP's manufacturing facilities in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, where all processes&mdash;including quality control, cooking, bottling, packaging and distribution&mdash;take place under one roof.
The company now operates three factories capable of producing more than 12,000 bottles daily, while providing employment for around 100 local workers.
Describing the product, Khairul said it is:
"Inspired by local flavours, made using local ingredients, produced by local people for the world to enjoy."
Biggest Product Launch Yet

Chinese video-sharing platform Bilibili is stepping up its international expansion with a new global Android app, plans for an English-language website and a push to attract creators outside China.

Football Fans Launch Global Petition Calling For Gianni Infantino To Resign

The legal proceedings surrounding the death of Rocky, a dog that died during a stray dog-catching operation in Port Klang last month, have taken a new turn after two people were charged with animal cruelty.
Muhammad Shah Idham Nor Haikal Shaharom, 24, and S. Roghini Devi, 42, separately pleaded not guilty in the Klang Sessions Court on 20 August over allegations that their actions caused unnecessary pain or suffering to the male dog.
The case has attracted widespread public attention since footage of the incident went viral, sparking debates over animal welfare, stray dog management and the treatment of those involved.
What Are The Charges Against Them?

According to the charges, Shah is accused of unreasonably restraining Rocky using a looped rope around the dog's neck, allegedly causing pain to the animal.
Roghini, who is said to be Rocky's owner, is separately accused of unreasonably pulling the dog, also allegedly causing pain or suffering. Both charges relate to an incident between 11pm and 11.30pm on 29 July outside a house along Jalan Sama Gagah 20, Taman Telok Gedung Indah, Klang.
They were charged under Section 29(1)(e) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015. If convicted, the offence carries a fine of between RM20,000 and RM100,000, imprisonment for up to three years, or both.
Both accused have pleaded not guilty and are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Bail Set At RM6,000 Each

During the court proceedings, the prosecution initially requested RM20,000 bail for each accused, together with conditions including passport surrender and monthly reporting to the Selangor Department of Veterinary Services (DVS).
The defence sought a significantly lower amount.
Shah's lawyer, Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali, argued that his client was not a flight risk and that bail should not effectively become punishment before conviction. Roghini's lawyer, Jeremy Vinesh Anthony, also requested lower bail, highlighting that she is a mother of four and supports her family.
The court eventually fixed bail at RM6,000 each, with one surety, and ordered both accused to report to the Selangor DVS once a month.
The case has been fixed for mention on 8 October 2026.
Roghini Also Faces A Separate Dog Licensing Charge

Roghini is also facing a separate charge at the Magistrate's Court for allegedly keeping Rocky without a valid dog licence.

If convicted, she could face a fine of up to RM2,000, imprisonment of up to one year, or both. The Magistrate's Court granted her RM1,000 bail for this separate charge, with the matter also fixed for mention on 8 October.
Rocky&rsquo;s Death Sparked Public Outrage

The case began after Rocky died during a dog-catching operation conducted in Taman Telok Gedong Indah on 29 July.
The operation was reportedly carried out following complaints from residents about stray dogs in the area and concerns over public safety. The Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) said the operation involved its personnel, a veterinary officer and around 50 local residents. A total of 12 dogs were reportedly captured during the operation.
According to the council, the situation became chaotic when an individual intervened during Rocky's capture, resulting in a struggle while the loop was still around the dog's neck.
Rocky subsequently died during the incident. However, his owner has given a different account of what happened.
Rocky&rsquo;s Owner And Shah Give Different Accounts

Roghini previously claimed that she returned home to find Rocky restrained by a snare around his neck and alleged that she repeatedly pleaded for the dog to be released.

Could Taiwan&rsquo;s Investment In Malaysia Be Affected?

He said businesses had already invested in systems for GST, SST and e-invoicing, and should not be forced to absorb another round of software, training and compliance costs.
What Could The New Model Look Like?

Experts have suggested several possible approaches.

Tax expert Harvindar Singh said Malaysia could also study international examples such as India and Canada, where broader consumption taxes operate alongside more targeted taxation.
However, he warned that simply placing GST on top of the existing SST could create unnecessary complexity and further tax-on-tax effects.
Concerns Over Cost Of Living

The concern is that higher costs for businesses could eventually be passed on to consumers through higher prices.

According to Khairul Aming, the five fastest customers who purchase five bottles of Sambal Nyet Bilis during the product launch will secure a place on the exclusive trip.
The sale will begin during his TikTok Live session on Friday, 7 August 2026, at 9pm, where fans will have the opportunity to purchase the new sambal directly.

One of the biggest additions is its new "5 Levels of Heat" system, allowing customers to customise the spiciness of their meals. The heat scale ranges from Scaredy Cat for those who prefer no spice, followed by Low Key, Mid, Nocap Hot, and finally Reaper, which uses the famously fiery Carolina Reaper chilli.
The chain said the idea is to let customers choose a spice level that best suits their own tolerance rather than offering a one-size-fits-all experience. If you're a fan of IKEA's famous Swedish meatballs, curry puffs or RM1.20 soft serve ice cream, you may remember that the IKEA Cheras Swedish Restaurant was temporarily ordered to close by the Ministry of Health (KKM) last month.
The restaurant has since resumed operations after rectifying the issues raised by health inspectors. However, just under two weeks after reopening, IKEA Cheras has found itself back in the spotlight after a customer spotted a cockroach near one of its ice cream machines.

The latest incident has sparked fresh discussions online, with many wondering whether it was linked to the restaurant's earlier temporary closure.
Why Was IKEA Cheras's Swedish Restaurant Closed?

The temporary closure dates back to 17 June, when the Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya Health Department ordered the Swedish Restaurant at IKEA Cheras to cease operations under Section 11 of the Food Act 1983.
Although many assumed the closure was due to serious hygiene concerns throughout the premises, IKEA Malaysia later clarified that the issues identified were confined to the restaurant's kitchen and operational procedures.
According to IKEA Malaysia Country Retail Director Malcolm Pruys, speaking to <a href="https://www.therakyatpost.com/news/malaysia/2026/07/03/we-could-have-stayed-open-we-didnt-ikea-cheras-director-sets-record-straight-on-hygiene-closure/#gsc.tab=0">The Rakyat Post (TRP)</a> after the reopening, inspectors found evidence of cockroach activity inside a drain beneath the kitchen floor, uncovered food stored in a freezer, the absence of a required no-smoking sign within the kitchen, and one newly hired employee who had yet to complete the mandatory food handling certification.
Importantly, no contaminated food was discovered during the inspection, and the customer dining area was not cited for any hygiene issues.
Although the closure notice allowed the restaurant to remain open until later that evening, IKEA voluntarily ceased operations immediately before carrying out remedial works.
The restaurant reopened on 22 June, just five days later, after replacing sections of kitchen plumbing, intensifying pest control measures and ensuring the outstanding staff certification had been completed.
IKEA Says It Has Never Failed An Independent Food Safety Audit

In the same interview, Pruys stressed that the June incident did not reflect IKEA's long-term food safety record.

Pruys also said IKEA's own internal food safety standards are set even higher than the minimum requirements imposed by the Ministry of Health, making the incident particularly disappointing for the company.

Just days after the restaurant resumed operations, another incident attracted attention online.
On 4 July, a customer shared photos and videos on Threads after spotting what appeared to be a cockroach crawling near the self-service ice cream machine at the IKEA Cheras Bistro on the ground floor.
The post quickly gained traction, with hundreds of thousands of views as many users questioned whether the sighting was connected to the restaurant's previous hygiene-related closure.
Some social media users also tagged the Ministry of Health and called for further inspections.
IKEA Clarifies The Bistro And Swedish Restaurant Are Separate

Following the viral post, IKEA Malaysia responded by explaining that the incident involved the IKEA Cheras Bistro, not the Swedish Restaurant that had been temporarily closed in June.
The company emphasised that these are two separate dining areas within the same store and that the Bistro had remained operational throughout the Swedish Restaurant's temporary closure.
As a precaution, IKEA said it immediately inspected the affected area and all ice cream machines after becoming aware of the video.
The company added that the area underwent a thorough cleaning while additional pest control treatment and inspections were carried out.
Despite the incident, the Bistro continued operating as normal.
IKEA Reaffirms Commitment To Food Safety
In its statement, IKEA Malaysia said food safety, hygiene and product quality remain among its highest priorities.
The retailer explained that pest control inspections and treatments are conducted weekly across all of its food operations as part of its standard operating procedures. Following the latest incident, IKEA said it has further strengthened its monitoring and inspection routines as an added precaution.
The company also thanked the customer for highlighting the issue, adding that customer feedback plays an important role in helping improve its operations. IKEA further clarified that the incident does not affect the IKEA Cheras Swedish Restaurant, nor any other IKEA Restaurants, Caf&eacute;s or Bistros nationwide.
While the two incidents occurred within the same IKEA Cheras outlet, they involve separate dining areas and are not considered the same case from a regulatory standpoint.
