Planning to head out for Merdeka Eve on 30 August or the National Day celebrations in Putrajaya on 31 August? Rapid KL will be extending the operating hours of its rail and selected bus services to 24 hours across both days to accommodate the expected increase in passengers.
The extended operations will cover all Rapid KL rail services, including the LRT, MRT and KL Monorail, alongside selected bus routes, the Sunway BRT and Rapid KL On-Demand services.

Train frequencies will also be increased on several major routes based on passenger demand and conditions at stations. Additional trains may be deployed if passenger numbers rise significantly or platform congestion becomes heavy.
The Sunway BRT, selected Rapid KL bus routes and Rapid KL On-Demand services will also operate around the clock during the two-day period.
The move is intended to make travelling easier for those attending Ambang Merdeka celebrations on the night of 30 August, as well as the National Day celebrations in Putrajaya on the morning of 31 August.
With large crowds expected, commuters may experience busier stations and longer queues at major interchanges, particularly around areas connected to the celebrations.
103 Free Shuttle Buses To Putrajaya

For those travelling to the National Day celebration in Putrajaya, Rapid KL will also provide 103 free shuttle buses across two dedicated routes.

The MS01 shuttle will operate between Putrajaya Sentral and Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, Precinct 2.
It will begin operating at 2pm on 30 August and continue until 2pm on 31 August, making it suitable for visitors travelling to Putrajaya ahead of the celebrations and those heading home afterwards.

<li> MS02: PICC To Precinct 3</li>

The MS02 route will connect the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) with Jalan Tun Hussein, Precinct 3.
This shuttle will operate from 4am until 2pm on 31 August, covering the key period for visitors heading to the National Day celebrations.
Rapid KL said the free shuttle services are designed to improve access to the celebration areas while reducing dependence on private vehicles and helping to ease traffic congestion around Putrajaya.
More Than 5,000 Rapid KL Staff On Duty

Passengers are advised to follow instructions from Rapid KL personnel, particularly at busy stations and locations where large crowds are expected.

The International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) has confirmed that the academic service of Dr Solehah Yaacob ended on 27 April 2026, months after she drew public attention over several controversial claims about Malay history and civilisation.
The former Arabic language and linguistics academic has since said she plans to challenge the termination at the Industrial Court, claiming she was dismissed with only 24 hours&rsquo; notice and was not given an opportunity to appeal.
IIUM, meanwhile, has clarified that Solehah no longer holds any position at the university and is no longer authorised to represent or claim an affiliation with the institution.
Solehah To Challenge Termination In Industrial Court

Speaking to local media, Solehah described the university&rsquo;s handling of her termination as &ldquo;unprofessional&rdquo;.
She claimed she was dismissed within 24 hours and was not given the opportunity to appeal the decision. She also said IIUM had offered her compensation equivalent to six months&rsquo; salary, but she rejected the offer.
Solehah said she would instead take the matter to the Industrial Court to challenge the termination and have the circumstances surrounding her dismissal examined. She also questioned the timing of the decision, saying that she had received a Malaysia Research Assessment (MyRA) commendation from the Higher Education Ministry just one day before her dismissal.
MyRA, introduced in 2006, is used to assess the research performance and capabilities of universities in Malaysia.

However, IIUM stressed that Solehah is no longer a professor at the institution and does not represent the university in any official capacity.
The university also said she is no longer permitted to use titles, positions, departments, centres or other affiliations associated with IIUM in media reports, publications, advertisements, promotional materials or social media content.
IIUM said the clarification was necessary to avoid confusion over Solehah&rsquo;s status and to protect the university&rsquo;s academic standing and institutional integrity.

Other claims attributed to her have included theories about ancient Malay civilisation and its influence on other cultures. IIUM had previously stressed that such views did not represent the university&rsquo;s official position.

The case began after a 33-second video went viral on social media, showing several individuals allegedly blocking vehicles on the expressway to clear the road for two motorcycles to race. Firecrackers were also reportedly set off after the race.
The incident has since sparked widespread criticism over the danger posed to other road users.

The incident is believed to have taken place on 22 August 2026, at around 7am, along the stretch between KM33 near the Senai Utara toll interchange and KM31 near the Johor Premium Outlets (JPO) interchange.
In the viral footage, several individuals could be seen standing on the expressway and apparently stopping traffic. Other people appeared to be gathered along the roadside, seemingly watching the race.
Two motorcycles were then seen speeding along the road while other motorists remained stopped. The motorcycles&rsquo; registration numbers and models could not be clearly identified from the video. Towards the end of the footage, the group was also seen setting off firecrackers to celebrate after the race.
The video drew heavy criticism online, with many questioning how anyone could justify shutting down a public expressway for an illegal race and potentially putting motorists and spectators at risk.
Eight People Arrested

Following the circulation of the video, police launched an investigation to identify the motorcyclists and other individuals believed to have been involved.
Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said eight suspects, aged between 26 and 45, were arrested at around 11.54am on 23 August by officers from the Kulai Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division.
The suspects were later brought before the Kulai Magistrates&rsquo; Court on 24 August, where they were remanded for four days to assist investigations. Among those arrested was reportedly a motorsports influencer who was allegedly seen at the scene after the race.
All eight suspects reportedly tested negative for drugs.
Police are also continuing efforts to identify other individuals who may have been present, including those who allegedly helped stop traffic or watched the race from the roadside.
Police Investigating Under Road Transport Act

The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers reckless and dangerous driving.

Police have also said that at least one individual believed to have been at the scene had already been identified during the early stages of the investigation. Members of the public with relevant information have been urged to assist police with the investigation.

For now, the eight suspects remain under remand as police continue investigating the viral video and identifying everyone allegedly involved.
Authorities are also working to establish the full sequence of events, including who organised the race, who participated and who helped block traffic.

The hosts later increased their tally to 97 gold, 71 silver and 69 bronze medals, putting them firmly ahead in the overall standings.
Najwan nevertheless warned that the competition was not over, with a number of gold medals still available before the Games officially conclude.
&ldquo;We cannot be overly confident. We are on track, but our athletes must remain focused,&rdquo; he said.
Selangor Has Already Surpassed Its 80-Gold Target

He stressed that any announcements made before the official ceremony were false and urged residents to wait for confirmation from the state government. As such, Monday, 24 August remains a working day in Selangor unless an official announcement is made.
Athletes To Receive Incentives After SUKMA

Chinese video-sharing platform Bilibili is stepping up its international expansion with a new global Android app, plans for an English-language website and a push to attract creators outside China.
Often described as China&rsquo;s answer to YouTube, Bilibili has built a large young audience around anime, gaming, animation and youth culture. The company now wants to take that community beyond China and compete more directly with platforms such as YouTube, TikTok and Twitch.

Bilibili has relaunched its international Android app, with an iOS version expected to follow.
The global version features a pink globe on its app icon, distinguishing it from the blue Bilibili app that has been available in markets such as Malaysia. One major change is a simpler sign-up process. Overseas users will reportedly no longer need to provide identity documents such as a passport to register.
New users only need to provide their date of birth for age-based content recommendations and can browse videos as guests. However, those who want to upload content and access creator tools will still need an account. Bilibili says the international platform will offer the same core content as its Chinese platform, with localisation improvements and additional features planned.
English Website And Global Teams In The Works

The company is also reportedly preparing an English-language version of its website, which could make the platform more accessible to international viewers and creators.
Bilibili has launched a Discord community to help creators understand the platform, including guides on uploading videos and using its features. The company has also suggested that an English version is on the way.
Its global hiring strategy further shows the scale of its plans, with community manager positions being advertised in Los Angeles, London, Mexico City, S&atilde;o Paulo, Istanbul and Tokyo.
Bilibili is also recruiting for AI-powered content moderation roles, which could become increasingly important as it enters markets with different regulations and cultural expectations.
Bilibili Wants More Global Creators

Bilibili also provides ways for creators to receive financial support from their audiences, which could become an important selling point as competition for creators intensifies.
