Malaysia&rsquo;s homegrown navigation app TuJu has resumed service with a significant change: users who tap its navigation function are now redirected to Google Maps instead. The workaround follows technical disruptions that affected the app after a surge in downloads, raising fresh questions about its readiness to serve as an alternative to established navigation platforms such as Waze.
The change is available through TuJu&rsquo;s Android update released on 30 October 2026. When users select Navigation, a message appears explaining that Google Maps will open to guide them to their destination. Users can choose to proceed or cancel. The arrangement means TuJu is accessible again, but it is no longer providing its own turn-by-turn directions.
TuJu&rsquo;s Navigation Feature Now Opens Google Maps
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/c02d66d9116a52a6ddda4ed3686b96dd50c67c29b0ff511389377fcdf8d7d5c7" />
The Android update, version 2.0.4, replaces TuJu&rsquo;s in-app navigation with a link to Google Maps. Reports and tests by local media found that the app launches as usual, while selecting the navigation option prompts users to open Google Maps to continue their journey.
The iOS experience is less clear. The Apple App Store listing remained on version 1.5.5, last updated in November 2025, and reports indicate that navigation was not functioning in the same way as the updated Android version.
Other TuJu features remain available within the app, including highway camera snapshots, traffic information and details about rest and recreation (R&amp;R) facilities. However, users who want to combine these features with turn-by-turn directions may need to switch between TuJu and Google Maps.
TuJu&rsquo;s traffic information section has also been reported to display updates published by the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) on Facebook, rather than offering a fully integrated live traffic service.
What Happened to TuJu&rsquo;s Navigation System?
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/d771391fc6aa47d877a2c30f20d7305764014482b0c45c58fa6edb667a2128f6" />
The latest workaround follows criticism of TuJu&rsquo;s navigation performance and technical problems reported in October. After a sharp increase in users, the app experienced disruptions, with motorists reporting inaccurate routes and vague instructions that offered little useful context while driving.
Following the complaints, LLM temporarily disabled the navigation function while system improvements were carried out. TuJu&rsquo;s developer, Prosignal Consortium Sdn Bhd, apologised for the disruption and said its technical team was working on recovery and improvements to make the app&rsquo;s features more reliable.
The developer had indicated that restoration work was expected to be completed by 6 November 2026. The Google Maps redirection, introduced before that stated deadline, provides users with access to navigation in the meantime, rather than waiting for TuJu&rsquo;s own system to be fully restored.
Why Was TuJu Promoted as a Waze Alternative?
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/540ac766097a341ac101131c0daa44e8c197b3eaca842e0a324a4c6b6b3287fe" />
TuJu attracted national attention after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim encouraged Malaysians to use the locally developed app as an alternative to Waze. The government also prohibited civil servants from using Waze for official duties, citing national security and data privacy concerns linked to the app&rsquo;s Israeli origins and the laws under which it operates.
The push towards TuJu was followed by a rapid increase in users, which appears to have placed pressure on a service that was not prepared for the sudden demand.
However, LLM chairman Hasni Mohammad has clarified that TuJu was not designed to compete directly with Waze or provide navigation across every road in the country. Instead, it was developed with private-sector app developers as a highway companion, supporting LLM&rsquo;s Traffic Management Centre.
Its intended functions include highway updates, toll exit information, locations of rest stops, camera feeds and emergency assistance contacts. Hasni said the app was still under development and did not have the capacity to provide nationwide navigation.
TuJu Faces Questions Over Its Capabilities
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/0feec1884ebc56e373aa771052f4504b26384b86a394f86450a4a863adf10391" />
The decision to redirect navigation to Google Maps has renewed questions about TuJu&rsquo;s development and the expectations placed on it. While the arrangement gives motorists access to an established mapping service, it also highlights the gap between the app&rsquo;s original navigation ambitions and the service currently available.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said ministry officials and LLM representatives had been summoned to brief a Parliamentary Special Select Committee on issues concerning TuJu. The proceedings were expected to take place during the week, although Nanta said he was unsure whether the app&rsquo;s developer would also be called.
Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil has also said those responsible for managing TuJu should be held accountable if inaccurate information was provided to the government.
For now, TuJu continues to offer highway-related information and camera features, while Google Maps handles navigation for users directed to it. Whether the app can eventually restore a reliable in-house navigation service remains to be seen.

Malaysia has been identified as a potential target of cyberattacks, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim warning that the country must prepare for increasingly sophisticated digital and hybrid security threats.
Speaking in the Dewan Rakyat on 3 November, Anwar said intelligence received by the government indicated that Malaysia was among countries that could be targeted. He said the country&rsquo;s expanding digital infrastructure and its position on international issues, particularly the conflict in Gaza, had raised its exposure.
&ldquo;Malaysia is certainly among those considered a target,&rdquo; he told MPs, while stressing that details of the intelligence and the possible threats could not be disclosed publicly for security reasons.
Anwar urged lawmakers and the public not to assume that cyber incidents overseas were too distant to affect Malaysia.
National Security Council to Brief MPs
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/70d95d49f18aa38e423ee31bb16c2742341fe87650d3c4f5ddb73b17bba256c0" />
Anwar&rsquo;s warning followed a special National Security Council (NSC) meeting held on 2 November to assess cyber, digital and wider hybrid threats, alongside geopolitical developments that could have implications for Malaysia.
He proposed that NSC director-general Datuk Raja Nushirwan Zainal Abidin hold a special closed-door briefing for government and opposition MPs within the next one or two days. The session is intended to update lawmakers on the latest intelligence, including information received from Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
Some intelligence could not be shared in an open sitting, and Anwar called on MPs from both sides to cooperate with the briefing.
The government was also stepping up coordination among its agencies. Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar was scheduled to chair a meeting with relevant departments on 3 November, while Bank Negara Malaysia Governor Datuk Seri Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour was to convene a separate session with domestic financial institutions to review their preparedness.
Cyberattacks Overseas Highlight the Risks
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/9e634132862457539243dcd83aed70e8b5f4c1485a6f8648862dc8888ab3c665" />
To explain why Malaysia should take the warning seriously, Anwar cited several cyber incidents that had disrupted public services and exposed sensitive information in other countries.
Belgium was forced to shut down its national tax portal following a cyberattack, while a breach of Denmark&rsquo;s central population register affected identification records involving almost nine million people. In the United States, the Federal Election Commission&rsquo;s electronic filing system was disrupted for 41 hours.
Anwar also referred to a breach involving Japanese government networks that reportedly exposed the personal records of more than 100,000 police personnel and affected police operations in several districts.
Anwar said these incidents showed how cyberattacks can disrupt government services and essential operations, and should not be dismissed as problems confined to other countries.
Five Areas in Malaysia&rsquo;s Cybersecurity Response
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/1de70c1afee5054a75e28a3cc3cc69637c821f1e56e143c42e114b3a99dcaa3e" />
Anwar outlined five areas of focus for strengthening the country&rsquo;s resilience. These include improving coordination between ministries, government agencies and security forces, as well as enhancing readiness to respond to threats originating both within and outside Malaysia.
Another priority is protecting critical national infrastructure and strategic sectors, particularly energy, transport, finance and food supply. The government also intends to improve public and community preparedness, while strengthening the technological capabilities and defensive systems used by enforcement and security agencies.
Anwar said he had received assurances from the Chief of Defence Force and the Inspector-General of Police about the security apparatus&rsquo; readiness.
Regional Tensions Add to Security Concerns
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/93a29a40c83fde8891a4a30d4883aeb703f57b9a0c883811bf143d36b6df222f" />
The government&rsquo;s assessment is not limited to cyber threats. Anwar said the NSC was also monitoring developments in the Middle East, including the conflict involving Iran, tensions in Yemen and instability around the Red Sea shipping routes.
In Parliament, Anwar further said intelligence agencies were monitoring potential security concerns linked to foreign intelligence activities in neighbouring countries. He specifically referred to alleged Israeli intelligence operations in the region and settlements in Phuket and southern Thailand, which he said Malaysian agencies viewed as potential threats. He did not provide further operational details.
Several countries, including Canada, Japan and EU members, have also advised citizens to maintain emergency food supplies amid international uncertainty.
Malaysia Urges Public Vigilance
Malaysia&rsquo;s expanding data centre sector and wider digital infrastructure bring economic opportunities while increasing the need to protect networks and sensitive information.
Anwar did not identify any suspected attackers or specify particular Malaysian systems that may be at risk. However, his statement made clear that the government considers the threat serious enough to warrant a high-level security response and a confidential briefing for Parliament.
The warning also highlights that cyber threats can affect everyday services and personal information, making public awareness important alongside national-level defences.

Directed by Jon M. Chu, Crazy Rich Asians was adapted from Kevin Kwan&rsquo;s 2013 bestselling novel. The romantic comedy follows Rachel, an American economics professor who travels to Singapore with her boyfriend Nick, only to discover that he belongs to one of the country&rsquo;s wealthiest families.
Her introduction to Nick&rsquo;s extravagant world brings her into conflict with his mother, Eleanor, as she faces family expectations and social rivalries. The film featured a predominantly Asian cast and became a major international success, earning more than US$239 million worldwide.
Its commercial performance and focus on Asian characters and experiences made it a significant moment for representation in Hollywood. Now, with the television series preparing to expand that fictional world, the open casting call gives aspiring performers, including Malaysians, an opportunity to become part of its next chapter.

HBO Is Casting For Crazy Rich Asians – Malaysians Can Audition Too!

Anthropic has introduced new restrictions to stop its Claude AI assistant from recreating specific existing video games, drawing a clearer boundary between helping users develop original projects and generating copies of copyrighted titles. The change comes as AI-powered game cloning and reverse-engineering gain attention.
The update is intended to discourage users from using Claude to reproduce another developer&rsquo;s game, even if the project is given a different name or presented as an original creation. Some developers say the restrictions affect legitimate work.
Anthropic Adds New Rules to Claude Code
&nbsp;<img src="https://r2.myc.my/60f24802f0a442934a0a3274e7df1d1591b501c525058a5e05ca76dc1f080b0a" />
<a href="https://x.com/chasmmmmmmmmmmm/status/2116062991686721968">X user Chasm</a> first highlighted the instruction around 27 October. The rule states that Claude should help build original games, games within an established genre, and projects based on a user&rsquo;s own designs and assets. It should not recreate a specific existing game, even if the user renames it or describes it as original.
Anthropic technical staff member Addy Osmani subsequently confirmed that the company had added two sentences to Claude Code&rsquo;s prompt for Opus 5.5. He said the purpose was to steer the model away from recreating another party&rsquo;s specific game because using Claude to infringe intellectual property (IP) would breach the company&rsquo;s usage policy.
Osmani stressed that the change was not intended to prevent users from making original games or developing projects inspired by a genre. He said Anthropic would keep refining the restrictions and invited developers to report incorrect refusals.
Why AI Game Cloning Is Becoming a Concern
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/3c7a28a3bf32877d3bbf1834a3be67ace2195b935e29170ace7bc4594f455e9e" />
The update comes amid a growing number of AI-assisted game recreations, ports and decompilation projects. AI coding tools have made it easier to examine existing games and create versions for other platforms.
Examples include browser-based projects inspired by Halo, Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto, as well as mods that place characters from one franchise into another game's world.
The development has raised particular concerns for independent studios. Smaller teams may struggle to respond if someone uses an early demo to create a competing version before the original is released. Some developers have also reportedly been threatened with having unfinished games cloned and released as complete products.
One example is Digital Sun Games, which cancelled a planned public playtest for its upcoming game ReVamp amid concerns that making a demo publicly available could expose it to copying.
Valve has also acknowledged concerns about low-quality AI-generated games and clones appearing on Steam. It has encouraged developers to distinguish their games through original features and creative direction, rather than announcing a blanket ban on AI tools.
Developers Say the Restrictions May Be Too Broad
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/b539da927791d0e3d9aa657c3f7d9d08a18bf3ec008209b6b5a2e64574f786f2" />
Although aimed at preventing direct copies, the rule is reportedly affecting legitimate development tasks. Developers say Claude has declined requests involving their own games, including work on mechanics, debugging, anti-cheat systems and security reviews.
There have also been complaints about refusals involving reverse-engineering tools and basic troubleshooting, such as analysing Windows crash dumps. Anthropic has not detailed how Claude determines whether a user owns the game or assets involved.
A model may struggle to distinguish an attempt to reproduce a copyrighted title from a developer examining their own code, fixing a bug or building a familiar mechanic for an original game. This creates a challenge for AI safeguards: restrictions designed to prevent misuse could also disrupt ordinary development work.
Where Is the Line Between Inspiration and Copyright Infringement?
&nbsp;<img src="https://r2.myc.my/0891ae703153f44bd98e6dd7f48caa6d58afad1c3d2ba3101b22d441e842aa1b" />
The debate reflects longstanding challenges in video game copyright. Copyright generally protects a game's original creative expression, including artwork, music, characters and presentation, rather than broad ideas, genres or gameplay mechanics.
Developers can therefore work within familiar genres without necessarily copying another title. The distinction becomes less clear when a project reproduces a specific game's recognisable creative elements.
The boundary can be complicated, particularly when a game combines functional mechanics with distinctive creative elements. Using AI to generate a copy does not automatically remove the potential copyright concerns.
Will Anthropic&rsquo;s Restrictions Stop Game Clones?
The instruction may deter casual users, but is unlikely to eliminate AI-assisted cloning. Users determined to recreate existing titles could turn to other AI models, including open-weight or locally run systems that may not apply the same restrictions.
A prompt-level safeguard may also fail to identify every attempt to disguise a copy as an original project. At the same time, overly broad restrictions risk disrupting legitimate developers who rely on AI tools for coding, testing and troubleshooting.
Anthropic&rsquo;s move highlights the challenge facing AI companies as their tools become more capable: they must balance creative assistance with the rights of developers whose work may be reproduced. For the gaming industry, the effectiveness of the new rule will depend not only on how well it blocks direct clones, but also on whether Anthropic can refine it without preventing users from building and improving games of their own.

Anthropic Restricts Claude AI From Cloning Existing Video Games

Tony Lim, the entrepreneur behind Malaysian food and beverage brands BananaBro and Boat Noodle, has passed away, prompting tributes from the businesses he founded and members of the local automotive community. His death was announced through messages shared by both restaurant chains on social media on 2 November, with colleagues remembering him for his vision, determination and commitment to the people who helped build his businesses.
Lim made his mark on Malaysia&rsquo;s dining scene by bringing distinct regional food concepts into accessible, modern restaurant settings. He founded Boat Noodle in 2014, introducing a Thai street-food-inspired concept built around small bowls of noodles, allowing diners to sample different flavours in one meal. In 2018, he established BananaBro, which brought South Indian-style banana leaf rice into a contemporary, fast-casual setting. The brand&rsquo;s menu centres on banana leaf meals and familiar accompaniments, helping introduce the dining experience to a wider audience.

The news of Lim&rsquo;s passing was shared by BananaBro and Boat Noodle on 2 November. Reports identified him as 47, although the brands did not disclose a cause of death.
In its tribute, BananaBro described Lim as the driving force behind its ambition to bring Malaysia&rsquo;s banana leaf dining culture to a wider audience. The company said his passion, generosity and belief in the idea helped bring the brand to life, while highlighting the care he showed towards the people and journey behind the business.
The statement added that his vision would continue through every banana leaf meal served and the lives he had touched. It thanked him for his inspiration and generosity, saying his legacy would remain part of the brand.
Boat Noodle also paid tribute to its founder, remembering him as a dreamer, fighter and mentor who believed in the potential of his team. The company said Lim built the business with passion and determination, encouraging employees to keep improving, even if progress came one per cent at a time.
It also highlighted the principle &ldquo;Together We Grow&rdquo;, describing it as more than a slogan to Lim. The brand said the phrase reflected how he approached leadership and teamwork, and thanked him for the lessons and belief he had shared with those around him. It pledged to continue growing and improving in a way that would honour his legacy.
From Logistics to Malaysia&rsquo;s Food and Beverage Industry
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/a8b623bf9d6fc8e344c0c2640c3e13d35dafeb78c08121da1c1822bac6ce2082" />
Before establishing his restaurant brands, Lim had a background in the family logistics business. His LinkedIn profile listed him as joining E.H. Utara Holdings in 2005, where he served as chief executive director. The company, which has regional operations, provides logistics services including transportation, warehousing and distribution.
Lim later moved into the food and beverage sector, first launching Boat Noodle in 2014 before introducing BananaBro four years later. The two concepts offered different dining experiences: Boat Noodle drew inspiration from Thai street food, while BananaBro focused on making banana leaf rice more accessible in modern retail locations.
BananaBro&rsquo;s growth was also linked to its approach to serving traditional South Indian food in a contemporary environment. The brand adapted banana leaf dining for shopping malls and a broader customer base while retaining familiar elements of the traditional meal.
Beyond his businesses, Lim was also remembered for his involvement in the local automotive community. Art of Speed Malaysia, an automotive and art event organiser, shared a tribute on 1 November, expressing sadness over his passing and thanking him for being part of the event and the memories shared with the community.

A Legacy Remembered by His Teams and Community
The tributes from both restaurant brands placed particular emphasis on Lim&rsquo;s leadership and the relationships he built with employees. Rather than remembering him solely as an entrepreneur, the companies described a founder who encouraged his teams to believe in themselves, persevere through challenges and develop together.
His passing marks a loss for the teams behind BananaBro and Boat Noodle, as well as the wider Malaysian food and beverage scene in which both brands have established a presence. Boat Noodle has been reported to operate 49 outlets nationwide, while BananaBro has more than 40 branches.
Although Lim is no longer there to lead the businesses he created, the messages from his teams suggest that the principles he championed will remain part of their direction. Both brands have pledged to carry forward the work he began, keeping his influence alive through their people, food and continued growth.

Getting a table at Rembayung has become a challenge for diners since the restaurant opened, with strong demand and reports of booking slots being snapped up for resale leaving genuine customers struggling to secure a visit. The popular Kuala Lumpur restaurant is now hoping to make reservations fairer and easier through a new booking system developed with Grab, introducing stricter verification and limits to discourage scalpers.
Who Is Khairul Aming and What Is Rembayung?
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/b1c311a623cfc5608e7b1884b9f810864ffd4cb2585a394ce4c009580ccfe8b6" />
Rembayung is the first restaurant venture by Malaysian content creator and entrepreneur Khairul Amin Kamarulzaman, better known as Khairul Aming. After building a large following through his cooking videos and popular Ramadan recipe content, he announced the restaurant project in December 2025.
Located in Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur, the restaurant was developed on an 8,000-square-foot site, with a reported investment of RM4 million. Its semi-glasshouse, warehouse-inspired design combines modern features with a kampung atmosphere, using wooden elements and greenery. It can accommodate up to 250 diners and serves traditional Malay and kampung-style dishes, including masak lemak cili api, sambal udang, asam pedas and ayam rendang, alongside familiar local favourites and traditional kuih.
When its first online reservations opened in January 2026, demand was so high that the booking website became inaccessible within minutes. The overwhelming response highlighted the challenge the restaurant would face in managing reservations while accommodating its growing number of interested customers.
Rembayung Moves Reservations to Grab

On 2 November 2026, Khairul Aming announced that Rembayung had partnered with Grab to introduce a new reservation process through the app&rsquo;s Dine Out feature and Book a Table function. The move follows complaints about scalpers allegedly securing multiple slots and reselling them at higher prices, leaving genuine diners unable to book directly.
Under the new rules, each verified Grab user can make only one reservation every two weeks. Bookings cannot be transferred or sold to another person. The customer who made the reservation must attend and bring the same phone used to book, then open the Grab app for verification at the restaurant. Screenshots or images of booking confirmations will not be accepted.
The system offers both dine-in and takeaway options. Customers can search for Rembayung in Grab&rsquo;s Dine Out section, select Book a Table, enter the number of guests, and choose an available date, time and booking type.

Each reservation requires a RM10 deposit per person, which will be deducted from the final food bill. Babies and children are counted as guests, and a booking can accommodate up to eight people.
Bookings are final, and deposits are non-refundable if customers cancel. Tables are held for only 15 minutes after the booking time, after which late arrivals may have their reservations cancelled. Each dining session lasts around one hour and 45 minutes.
What Happens to Existing Umai Reservations?
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/c8cd0d91b1891dde52c9155bbbb44c58b37137b05fea5e55e8e98c245c2eb4fd" />
Before the Grab partnership, Rembayung used Umai to manage reservations. The platform allowed customers to compete for available slots when bookings opened, but heavy traffic caused access difficulties and long waits.
Khairul Aming said in September that the restaurant was testing a replacement system after scalping complaints. Customers who already booked through Umai do not need to make another reservation, as their existing bookings remain valid.
The Umai website was still displaying a waiting-room page at the time of the Grab announcement, and it was not immediately clear whether the platform would be discontinued entirely.
The Grab system is already open for reservations, although availability may be limited. Rembayung has indicated that around 20,000 customers had secured bookings for November, representing approximately 80 per cent of the restaurant&rsquo;s capacity for the month. Further slots are expected to be released in stages through Grab.
Can the New System Stop Reservation Scalping?
<blockquote id="ig-tp-DfOzusFmlNv" class="text-post-media" style="background: #FFF; border-radius: 16px; max-width: 650px; margin: 1px; min-width: 270px; padding: 0; width: calc(100% - 2px); border: 1px solid #00000026;" data-text-post-permalink="https://www.threads.com/@khairulaming/post/DfOzusFmlNv" data-text-post-version="0">

</blockquote>

<script async="" src="https://www.threads.com/embed.js"></script>

The new rules are designed to make bulk reservations and reselling more difficult. Limiting verified users to one booking every two weeks restricts repeated reservations, while requiring the original booking phone helps the restaurant check that the person arriving is the account holder. Making bookings non-transferable also removes the option of simply passing a reservation to another diner.
However, Khairul Aming has acknowledged that tackling scalping is not easy. The new system is intended to reduce the problem and improve the booking experience, rather than guarantee that all misuse will disappear.
For diners, the key change is that reservations must now be made and verified through the Grab account and device used at the time of booking. Customers planning a visit should check the available slots and read the terms in the app carefully before paying the deposit.

Getting a table just got a new set of rules. Will it finally keep scalpers away?

Khairul Aming’s Rembayung Introduces Grab Booking System To Curb Scalpers

Kimi Antonelli has made Formula 1 history after becoming the youngest-ever world champion at 20 years and 68 days old, following a third-place finish at the Mexico City Grand Prix on 1 November 2026.
The Mercedes driver secured his maiden drivers&rsquo; championship with four races remaining, achieving the milestone in only his second Formula 1 season.
Antonelli finished behind race winner Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton in Mexico City, but his podium was enough to confirm his place at the top of the standings. His triumph also ends Italy&rsquo;s wait for a Formula 1 world champion, with Alberto Ascari the country&rsquo;s last title winner in 1953.

Who Is Kimi Antonelli? From Karting Prodigy to F1 Champion
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/4aa786868165c8bef9d09c389c5546b707db4a7a1ce0dffc55d08e84e1a56b88" />
Born Andrea Kimi Antonelli on 25 August 2006 in Bologna, Italy, Antonelli developed an interest in motorsport from an early age. His father, Marco Antonelli, was also involved in racing, and he began karting when he was seven.
He quickly made his mark in junior competition, winning the 2015 Trofeo Easykart and Easykart International Grand Final. Further success followed in events including the WSK Champions Cup, ROK Cup International Final and WSK Euro Series.
Mercedes recognised his potential and signed him to its junior driver programme in 2019, when he was 12. He moved into single-seater racing in 2021 and continued to progress through the junior categories.
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/561a2da243a9e7b4c9a82a4cd278b73cc091de2bd5f83cbd7de221d2112d893a" />
In 2022, Antonelli won both the Italian Formula 4 and ADAC Formula 4 championships, taking 22 victories across 35 races. The following year, he claimed the Formula Regional Middle East and Formula Regional European titles.
His performances earned him a seat with PREMA Racing in Formula 2 in 2024. He secured notable wins in the Silverstone Sprint Race and Budapest Feature Race, strengthening his case for a place in Formula 1.
Mercedes promoted him to its senior team for the 2025 season, replacing seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, who had moved to Ferrari. Partnering George Russell, Antonelli used his rookie campaign to gain experience before making a major step forward the following year.
Antonelli Breaks Sebastian Vettel&rsquo;s Youngest Champion Record
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/077338a8e3d589a5890cdc9cf09c06e7d3069b323fe1931b45d3caa98210ed1d" />
At 20 years and 68 days old, Antonelli has become the youngest world champion in Formula 1 history, surpassing Sebastian Vettel&rsquo;s previous record.
Vettel was 23 years and 134 days old when he won his first title with Red Bull in 2010. Antonelli has therefore taken the record by more than three years.
His achievement is especially remarkable given that he is only in his second season in the sport. After finishing seventh in the 2025 drivers&rsquo; championship, he began the new campaign with a stronger understanding of the car and the demands of Formula 1.
Antonelli quickly established himself as a title contender, taking the championship lead after the Japanese Grand Prix. His early-season form included five victories across the opening six races.
One of his standout performances came at the Italian Grand Prix, where he fought back from 19th on the grid to claim victory at Monza.
By the Mexico City race, Antonelli had recorded nine wins and 16 podium finishes during the 2026 campaign. Despite losing points on two occasions because of mechanical problems, his pace and consistency kept him in control of the championship battle.
A Composed Drive Seals the Championship in Mexico
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/fe0b7b54823f79d51e635e747da25ddae3884dee9f8236ee6e43a9cea704cdee" />
Antonelli arrived in Mexico knowing that a ninth-place finish or better would be enough to secure the title, regardless of his closest rivals&rsquo; results.
Starting fourth, he delivered a controlled performance in a race disrupted by several incidents. A crash involving Valtteri Bottas brought out the red flag, while a later collision involving Arvid Lindblad and Oscar Piastri led to a Safety Car period.
Despite the interruptions, Antonelli remained composed and moved into third position, holding it until the chequered flag.
Verstappen claimed his sixth Mexico City Grand Prix victory, with Hamilton finishing second. However, the biggest celebration was in the Mercedes garage, where Antonelli&rsquo;s podium confirmed him as the 2026 world champion.
His reaction over the team radio reflected the significance of the moment, as he thanked Mercedes, his family and those who had supported his journey. Fellow competitors also praised his progress and ability to perform under pressure.
Four Races Remain, With More Action Ahead
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/6eb1e5e62d0ea9a0ec228adba954951dabd5170cd5070dcfe5ef9629c92cf777" />
Although the drivers&rsquo; championship has been decided, the 2026 season still has four races to go. The calendar continues with the Sao Paulo Grand Prix from 6 to 8 November, followed by races in Las Vegas and Qatar before the season finale in Abu Dhabi.
With the individual title settled, attention will turn to the remaining race victories, final championship positions and the battle for the constructors&rsquo; championship.
<img src="https://r2.myc.my/b88787a0548f4d7e03363385a05aa1cc0c9efb3349ee452397f40a3f63404869" />
Antonelli&rsquo;s triumph also raises the question of which racing number he will use next season. As the reigning world champion, he is eligible to use number 1 in 2027. The number is currently used by Lando Norris, who won the 2025 title and would ordinarily return to his familiar number 4.
However, Antonelli has indicated that he intends to retain number 12, which has personal significance, rather than take the champion&rsquo;s number.
Whatever number appears on his car, Antonelli will begin the 2027 campaign as the driver his rivals will be looking to beat. At just 20, he has already achieved what many drivers spend their careers pursuing. His rapid rise from karting prodigy to world champion could be only the start of an even bigger career.
