Life is starting to resume like normal pre-pandemic days again. Malaysians and tourist don&rsquo;t have travel restrictions and masks are no longer mandatory indoors and outdoors (but it&rsquo;s still advisable to wear).
Since Malaysia can get pretty hot, especially if you&rsquo;re in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, many of us tend find way to cools off whether it be chilling at a caf&eacute; or maybe going somewhere out of town. One of the more popular tourist destinations that&rsquo;s close to KL is Genting Highlands where you&rsquo;re elevated 1,865m off the sea level.
Typically, Genting Highlands weather averages at 22&deg;C during the day and can drop as low as 12&deg;C during the night which makes it a more ideal place to beat the heat while having fun with your family and friends.

Aside from the weather, a lot of people make their way up Genting to go to the Genting SkyWorlds Outdoor Theme Park as well as the Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park to enjoy the thrill and rides that it has to offer. In total, the two parks offer over 40 different rides and attractions for visitors.
Disappointed Tourists
Despite the theme park opening back on 8 February 2022, many visitors had left Genting pretty disappointed due to the many of the rides in the outdoor and indoor theme parks being closed or generally unavailable for use.

A woman from Singapore had unfortunately learnt this the heard way after visiting the park with her husband. Iffah Umairah had shared her experience on TikTok as she shared her disappointment due to the lack of entertainment options.

She explains in the comment section that most of the rides were &ldquo;faulty&rdquo;. Therefore, the implication that the rides were mainly closed to the public due to it not working.

In the video, she revealed that when she went to the &ldquo;Independence Day: Defiance&rdquo; ride, it was closed. She and her husband then later lined up to try the &ldquo;Rivet Town Roller&rdquo; but it too was closed off by the staff mid-way thru their queue.
In the end, Umairah revealed that she only managed to ride 3 of the outdoor rides in the theme park which were:
1) Ice Age: Expedition Thin Ice

She described the Ice Age ride as &ldquo;boring&rdquo; but the other two were &ldquo;fun&rdquo;. 
The worse part of it all was the queue as it took almost 60 minutes to try out each ride in the outdoor park.
As the weather took a twist and it started raining up in Genting, the couple had then went to the Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park. Despite having 19 rides in there, they only managed to try the &ldquo;Music Express&rdquo; ride. Additionally, there are currently six rides unavailable to the public in the Skytropolis park.
Many others also disappointed
Umairah is not the first person to be disappointed by Genting&rsquo;s theme park experience as there are many videos and reviews online talking about the park.
If you head over to Tripadvisor, despite having some decent reviews, there are a recorded 27 &ldquo;1 star&rdquo; rating reviews on the park. Most of the reviews had described that the rides in the park were always either closed due to maintenance and also rainy weather.

Aside from the closure of rides due to it being &ldquo;under maintenance&rdquo; some had even commented that the staff in the park had been rude and the price for the experience was definitely not worth it at all.
Speaking about rain, Malaysia will be experiencing monsoon season between October to March and it sounds like it wouldn&rsquo;t be a good idea to plan a trip up to Genting to experience the park. Another noteworthy thing for visitors is that the game booths at the park is charged separately from the admission ticket
To sum things up, is a trip to up to Genting&rsquo;s theme park worth it right now? Probably not. If you were to go out there for a weekend of cold weather, food and company then yes it would be a good day trip.

Japanese pop-rock legends SEKAI NO OWARI&mdash;also known internationally as End of the World&mdash;have officially announced their return to Southeast Asia with their brand-new Phoenix Asia Tour. The tour, slated for October 2025, marks their first full-scale live shows in the region since their 2015 performance at MTV World Stage in Malaysia.

A catastrophic aviation disaster unfolded on Thursday, 12 June, when an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner en route to London crashed shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The crash, which occurred at approximately 1.39pm local time, claimed the lives of more than 240 people, making it the world&rsquo;s worst commercial aviation tragedy in over a decade.

Flight AI171, bound for Gatwick Airport, was carrying 242 individuals, including 217 adults, 11 children, two infants, and a crew of 12. The aircraft plummeted into a residential area, crashing directly into a hostel attached to a medical college in the Meghani Nagar neighbourhood during lunchtime. Among the deceased were hostel residents, including medical students, doctors, and their families.

Only One Survivor Pulled from the Wreckage

In a rare miracle, one passenger survived: a British national of Indian origin named Vishwash Kumar Ramesh. Seated in seat 11A, next to an emergency exit, Ramesh was able to escape the burning wreckage. He sustained multiple injuries but remained conscious and coherent when transported to hospital.
&ldquo;Thirty seconds after take-off, there was a loud noise and then the plane crashed. It all happened so quickly,&rdquo; Ramesh told the Hindustan Times from his hospital bed. &ldquo;When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I was scared. I stood up and ran. There were pieces of the plane all around me. Someone grabbed hold of me and put me in an ambulance.&rdquo;
Footage taken after the crash showed Ramesh bloodied and limping as he was helped into an ambulance. Police later confirmed he had managed to jump from the aircraft through the emergency exit, and that he remains the only known survivor.
Devastation on the Ground

The destruction was not limited to those on board. At least 24 people on the ground perished when the aircraft struck the building. Many others were injured. Witnesses described the crash as sounding like a bomb explosion, and some felt the ground shake as if during an earthquake.
&ldquo;My son is safe, and I have spoken to him,&rdquo; said a woman named Ramila, whose son had just returned to the hostel for lunch. &ldquo;He jumped from the second floor, so he suffered some injuries.&rdquo; Another local, Poonam Patni, recounted the horror: &ldquo;When we reached the spot there were several bodies lying around and firefighters were dousing the flames. Many of the bodies were burned.&rdquo;
Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was among the victims. Authorities have asked families of the deceased to provide DNA samples for identification due to the severe burns suffered by many victims.
Cause of Crash Still Unknown
The aircraft had only just departed Ahmedabad&rsquo;s runway when it issued a Mayday call. Moments later, it vanished from radar. CCTV footage showed the plane struggling to climb before falling rapidly and disappearing from view, followed by a massive fireball rising from behind residential buildings.

Air traffic control confirmed the Dreamliner took off at 1.39pm and lost contact shortly after. The flight tracking website Flightradar24 reported that the plane&rsquo;s signal was lost less than a minute after take-off. Notably, video analysis suggested the landing gear was still down, which aviation experts noted as unusual for that stage of flight.
US aerospace safety consultant Anthony Brickhouse remarked: &ldquo;If you didn&rsquo;t know what was happening, you&rsquo;d think the plane was on approach, not take-off.&rdquo; The exact cause remains unknown, but mechanical failure or pilot error has not been ruled out.
First Crash for Boeing 787 Dreamliner

The Dreamliner had a reputation for being one of the safest wide-body jets, adding further shock to the tragedy. Boeing has since dispatched a team of experts to assist with the investigation, which is being led by India&rsquo;s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB).
Worldwide Response and Support

They also committed to covering all medical expenses for the injured and pledged support in rebuilding the medical college hostel.
International leaders extended condolences. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the incident as &ldquo;heartbreaking beyond words.&rdquo; UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the images &ldquo;devastating,&rdquo; and King Charles was said to be closely following developments. US President Donald Trump described the incident as &ldquo;terrible,&rdquo; while British authorities confirmed they were working with Indian counterparts to support affected families.
Three of the British victims were identified as Akeel Nanabawa, his wife Hannaa, and their young daughter, Sara. Gatwick Airport has set up a special reception centre for relatives of passengers.
Investigation Underway

The aircraft&rsquo;s black box and cockpit voice recorder have been recovered, and data from these will be crucial in determining the crash's cause.
GE Aerospace, the maker of the plane&rsquo;s engines, has also sent a team to India to assist in analysing the flight and cockpit data. The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is working closely with Boeing and GE, while the UK&rsquo;s Foreign Office is providing consular support to affected families.
A Community in Mourning
The tragedy has left the city of Ahmedabad in mourning, with vigils being held outside hospitals and homes of the deceased. Scenes of relatives awaiting news or identification at the city&rsquo;s morgues underscore the profound human cost of the crash.
The incident has also reignited scrutiny over aircraft safety and airline maintenance standards, as many families question how such a devastating failure could occur so soon after take-off.

Tragedy In Ahmedabad: Over 240 Dead In Air India Crash, British Man Sole Survivor

What began as a suspected break-in at a family home in Bukit Rambai, Melaka, during the early hours of 12 June, has now been confirmed as a deeply troubling domestic tragedy. A 51-year-old single mother, Vernita Boon (also reported as Wen Qiu Yan in some sources), and her 21-year-old eldest son, Lim Boon Kai, were found brutally stabbed to death in the living room of their home in Taman Rambai Mutiara.
Initial reports suggested a robbery, but police have since revealed that the perpetrator was not an external intruder. Instead, the horrific attack was allegedly carried out by Boon&rsquo;s second son, a 17-year-old schoolboy, who is believed to have been driven by pent-up resentment stemming from constant academic pressure.
