Whenever we travel around the world, every country has a dish that&rsquo;s known as its signature dish or even a &ldquo;must try&rdquo; dish. From appetizers, main courses desserts and everyone&rsquo;s favourite street food.
Without a doubt, street food can be some of the best foods to get out there cause it&rsquo;s cheap, big in portions and delicious. But no matter where we go around the world, Malaysians will never be convinced that a dish from a particular country can top the food we have back home.

Without a doubt, many Malaysians love themselves a Roti Canai. It&rsquo;s one of those dishes that you can have at almost any time of the day as it&rsquo;s crispy and fluffy and comes with a wide of dal or curry of your choice. It&rsquo;s also very affordable and easily available from store-bought frozen ones to the freshly made Roti Canai&rsquo;s at our nearby mamak.
In the overall list of street foods, there were 100 different types of foods on the list by the Croatia-based experiential food guide. We had shared the same rating as China for their Guotie and Spain&rsquo;s Espetos which placed #1 and #3 respectively.

According to TasteAtlas, Roti Canai originated from India and is known as Indian flatbread but it was later brought to several other countries around Southeast Asia. If we were to travel to other countries, they all rock different names such as Mataba in Thailand, or even Roti Prata in Singapore. Despite the different names, we will still get the same flavour and soft and crunchy texture we all love wherever we go.

How Did Other Southeast Asian Street Foods Do?

Looking at the list, we have a couple of Southeast Asian countries onboard. The highest-ranked Southeast Asian dish after Roti Canai is Banh Mi from Vietnam in 7th, Bubur Ayam and Tempeh Mendoan, Pempek, Pisang Goreng and Serabi from Indonesia in 13th, 14th, 37th 40th and 41st and lastly Lumpiang Shanghai from Philippines in 45th. If you&rsquo;re wondering where is Singapore on the list, they were placed in 99th place for their Char Kway Teow.

Meanwhile, for Street foods from other countries, we can see that Mexico has quite a few foods up on the board with 9 different dishes at the Top-50. Fun fact, almost half of the Mexican foods mentioned in the list all goes inside a tortilla!

Can We Trust TasteAtlas Ratings?

In short, we can sometimes trust it. In the past, the company had gained some heavy criticism from many, especially us Malaysians when our food was rated &ldquo;pretty poorly&rdquo; by the company.
Past ratings showed that TasteAtlas rated our favourite morning meal, Nasi Lemak, as &ldquo;Ok&rdquo; with a 3.5-star rating and it lost to Bubur Ayam (Indonesia), Pad Thai (Thailand), Tortang Talong (Philippines) and even Pho (Vietnam).

In 2022, they also <a href="https://myc.my/articles/2092/malaysia-ranks-39th-by-tasteatlas-how-are-we-supposed-to-react">ranked Malaysia&rsquo;s cuisines at 39th</a> in the world with a 3.99 rating which angered many Malaysians. Meanwhile, the way that they ranked foods and cuisines from other countries had managed to spark controversy all over the internet as it definitely did not reflect the global perception of foreign cuisines.
Well, whatever the result or ranking is, every Malaysian out there will always have a soft spot for Roti Canai.

Recently, ZUS Coffee officially launched its brand-new &ldquo;ZUS Tea Series&rdquo;, diversifying its previously coffee-dominated menu to tap into Malaysia&rsquo;s booming milk tea craze. The new range features three flavours &ndash; Dark Oolong Milk Tea, Jasmine Milk Tea, and White Peach Oolong Milk Tea &ndash; each available hot or iced.
It didn&rsquo;t take long for netizens to notice the strategic similarities to CHAGEE, a leading premium tea franchise in Malaysia. X (formally known as Twitter) user @fdajesfry remarked, &ldquo;ZUS now has a Tea Series and they&rsquo;re clearly going for CHAGEE&rsquo;s target market, they put White Peach Oolong Milk Tea at the top of the list.&rdquo; The user rated the new drinks 2 out of 5 stars, citing artificial taste and overpowering fragrance.
