In recent times, the proliferation of scams has become a worldwide concern, with scammers using various tactics to lure and intimidate potential victims. These deceptive schemes often lead to nightmarish situations for those who fall prey to them.

Recently, a notable local content creator named Arvind Kumar shared a poignant story of his eighteen-year-old brother losing RM6K after engaging in tasks offered via WhatsApp. The scammers were cunningly smart to make him believe that it wasn&rsquo;t a scam but a reliable and valid job offer tailored for him to earn more commission.

As said by Arvind, the conversation began with &ldquo;Hi dear, are you looking for a part-time job online?&rdquo; Eventually, he was added to a WhatsApp group where he got to meet individuals who were sort of part-timers like him. They masqueraded themselves with real images of working adults in an attempt to present themselves as credible job finders.&nbsp;

However real it seemed to be, he was under the scammer&rsquo;s thumb to complete the assigned tasks by levels to receive a 10% commission in less than 10 to 15 minutes for the work done.
What Did His Brother Have To Do?
Arvind's brother's initial task involved taking a screenshot of a pomade product on Shopee and making an RM30 transfer to a separate bank account. Remarkably, he received a 10% commission in under 10 minutes, resulting in total earnings of RM33. To put it plainly, for a product valued at RM30, an individual would receive a 10% commission, which equates to RM3. When you add it all up, the total earnings come to RM33.

It was indeed a cleverly designed tactic to attract victims to proceed with another task and so forth as a means to earn more commission. This was no surprise for him to believe that he was placed in a real working scenario while carrying out the assigned tasks. 
Here comes the other tasks in which he was assigned to do. With the assigned tasks of different levels that were distinctive from the previous one, Arvind&rsquo;s brother continued participating since it rocketed to RM200.

Sadly, suspicion did not arise from his side since he still received an additional 10% commission for completing the requested tasks. The level then progressed with a greater amount and this time was RM699 but he ought to finish three tasks assigned before he was then given a 10% commission or double of the amount. 
Arvind&rsquo;s brother got even more interested and prompted to accomplish more tasks as there were affirming messages saying &ldquo;Thank you, admin. I just got my 10% commission.&rdquo; Thus, he was driven to do more and more so that he could attain greater benefits from it. But such action impacted his entire savings and his savings ended up in zero balance.

After attempting many tasks, his suspicion came as the promised return was not received immediately unlike before. Instead, he was urged to do an additional task with a high value of RM2K as proposed. Therefore, he went out and borrowed money in order to continue participating in it and most importantly, to earn more return than the previous ones. 
He made the RM2K payment however, he was told again to complete the new tasks with much assurance that he would get everything back once he finished it entirely.

At last, he approached Arvind about it for guidance and Arvind immediately recognized that it was actually a scam. Despite this, his brother did not trust that it was a fake one. As a result, his solid denial led him to undergo severe mental distress. 
The money of RM2K that he lent to his brother somehow did not return and at that moment, Arvind&rsquo;s brother began to realize that he was being cheated by a bunch of scammers. Saddened by his loss of RM6K to the scammers, he was then traumatized for at least a year.
In the end, nobody wants to be the victim of scammers. Therefore, we ought to be careful and wise enough to not let greed cloud our actions because scammers nowadays are good at using psychological tactics to frighten us or to lure us to earn more money. Eventually, no one will offer you &lsquo;easy money&rsquo; so do not be lured by such lucrative offers. 
Overall, it is a useful lesson for all of us to take note of so that we will NOT fall prey to scammers.

Malaysia is reeling from one of the most devastating road tragedies in recent memory following a fatal collision involving a bus carrying university students and a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) in the early hours of Monday, 9 June 2025. The accident occurred near Tasik Banding along the East-West Highway (Jalan Raya Timur-Barat) in Banun, Gerik, Perak, claiming 15 lives and injuring dozens more.
The victims were students of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), returning to campus after celebrating the Hari Raya Aidiladha holidays. What was supposed to be a routine journey back to continue their academic pursuits turned into a national tragedy, sending shockwaves through the community and prompting an outpouring of grief across the country.

According to reports from the Civil Defence Force&rsquo;s Hulu Perak operations control centre (PKOD APM), the emergency call from Hospital Gerik was received at approximately 1.10am, shortly after the accident occurred. The bus, which had been chartered privately by the students, was en route from Jerteh, Terengganu, to the UPSI main campus in Tanjong Malim, Perak. It was carrying 48 passengers, primarily students who had gathered in Jerteh following the festive break.
The collision also involved a Perodua Alza MPV, believed to be travelling in the same direction. Both vehicles were headed west when, for reasons still under investigation, the bus overturned and the Alza skidded off the road into a nearby ditch.
Casualties and Injuries: A Sobering Toll

Out of the 48 individuals involved, 13 were pronounced dead at the scene, while two more succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. The severity of the crash has left many others in serious condition. Initial assessments revealed seven people in the red zone (critical condition), 20 in the yellow zone (semi-critical), and 16 in the green zone (minor injuries) at Gerik Hospital.
Two injured female students were among the first to be brought in for emergency care, one reportedly suffering a fractured arm and the other sustaining head injuries. Medical teams acted quickly to stabilise the injured, many of whom were trapped or ejected from the bus during the accident.
Emergency Rescue Efforts Amid Wreckage

Perak Fire and Rescue Department Director Sayani Saidon confirmed that the rescue operations were complex and urgent. Upon arrival, responders found the bus overturned and severely damaged. The operation commander led a technical &ldquo;size-up&rdquo; of the situation before implementing the &lsquo;saver&rsquo; concept&mdash;a strategy that prioritises creating access to victims in confined spaces.
Hydraulic cutting tools were deployed to open the rear section of the bus and allow responders to reach trapped individuals. Six victims were found still inside the wreckage and were carefully extracted before being handed over to Ministry of Health (KKM) medical teams. Others had managed to crawl out or were thrown from the vehicle during the impact. All deceased were later handed over to the police for further action.
Multiple agencies worked together to transport the injured and deceased using Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS), KKM ambulances, and units from the Civil Defence Force. The professionalism and urgency of the rescue teams prevented what could have been an even greater loss of life.
Students Had Privately Chartered the Bus
In the aftermath of the tragedy, Professor Dr Norkhalid Salimin, UPSI&rsquo;s Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Student Affairs and Alumni, confirmed that the students had arranged for a private charter bus to return to campus after the holiday period. He noted that they had travelled together from Jerteh, having reunited with their families during the Aidiladha celebrations.
&ldquo;The students had taken the initiative to organise their own transport back to campus. It was meant to be a straightforward return from the festive break,&rdquo; he said.
The university has since mobilised its staff to assist the families of victims, while also coordinating with authorities to obtain accurate information and provide necessary support, including counselling and logistical assistance.
UPSI and the Nation in Mourning

The violations include Chinese-made cathode materials and surveillance equipment that were either reassembled in South Korea or relabelled outright before being shipped to the United States. Some of these goods had already been exported, while others were intercepted at the port.
In response, the Korea Customs Service has launched a special task force and is working closely with US authorities to crack down on these illegal transhipment practices. All violations are expected to be forwarded to prosecutors for legal action.
Malaysia Urged to Act Swiftly to Protect Its Trade Integrity
Malaysian trade analysts are now sounding the alarm. If this misuse continues unchecked, Malaysia&rsquo;s international credibility as a law-abiding trade partner could be at risk. The country's legitimate exporters may find themselves subject to heightened scrutiny by US authorities, leading to delays, increased compliance checks, and potential blacklisting.
There are growing calls for the Malaysian government to act decisively.
