For employed individuals, a portion of our earnings is designated for the Employee Provident Fund (EPF). Normally, the deducted amount is allocated to our accounts, serving as a retirement fund for the future. However, the funds accumulated in EPF are not easily withdrawn at will, requiring government authorization.
Traditionally divided into Accounts 1 and 2, the Employee Provident Fund (EPF) has introduced i-Lindung Phase 2. This initiative empowers members to leverage funds from Account 2 to secure insurance and takaful products, providing comprehensive life and critical illness protection for their immediate family members.
In a statement by the EPF, they reported that since the inception of i-Lindung in July 2022, over 102,301 members have purchased a total of 118,166 policies and takaful products through the i-Lindung platform. The coverage offered to the users encompasses life and critical illness insurance protection at affordable premiums which extended up to December 2023.

In response to the overwhelmingly positive feedback, the EPF has recently implemented significant enhancements to the i-Lindung platform, with a primary emphasis on refining policy and certificate management. These upgrades are designed to extend coverage beyond a one-year duration, offering EPF members the opportunity to secure long-term protection for themselves and their immediate family members. The revamped platform now boasts improved user-friendly features, simplifying policy management and facilitating convenient recurring payments for individuals seeking prolonged protection.
According to the EPF, members interested in acquiring insurance and participating in takaful products from EPF-approved insurance companies and takaful operators, for themselves or their immediate family, can seamlessly do so through the i-Lindung platform within the EPF i-Akaun (Member) mobile application.

Launched in July 2022 by then Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, the i-Lindung platform collaborates with esteemed insurance companies and takaful operators, including FWD Takaful Bhd, Prudential Assurance Malaysia Bhd, Prudential BSN Takaful Bhd, Etiqa Life Insurance Bhd, and Etiqa Family Takaful Bhd.
Eligibility criteria state that members below the age of 55, possessing a sufficient balance in Account 2, and registered i-Akaun users are qualified to purchase products under i-Lindung.
Furthermore, individuals aged 55 and above can also partake in i-Lindung products, provided they meet the eligible entry age criteria for the related products and maintain a minimum of RM100 in either Akaun 55 or Akaun Emas.

EPF Sanctions The Use Of Account 2 To Acquire Insurance And Takaful For Immediate Family

Public transport operator Rapid KL will be extending and enhancing its rail operations between 23 and 27 May 2025, in conjunction with the 46th ASEAN Summit set to take place in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. The temporary changes are designed to manage a significant rise in commuter traffic and facilitate seamless travel for both local passengers and foreign delegates attending the high-level summit.
One-Hour Extension of Peak Rail Services

<li>Evening peak hours will extend from 4.30pm to 8.00pm (previously 5.00pm to 7.30pm)</li>

The adjustments apply to all major Rapid KL rail lines, including the Kelana Jaya, Ampang/Sri Petaling, Kajang, Putrajaya, and KL Monorail lines. The move is expected to benefit daily commuters and help disperse travel loads more efficiently, especially during the early morning rush and evening return hours.
Enhanced Weekend Train Frequencies
In addition to the extended operating hours on weekdays, Rapid KL will also increase train frequencies on Saturday, 24 May, and Sunday, 25 May, when summit-related activities and city tourism are expected to peak.

<li>Trains on the Ampang/Sri Petaling Line will operate every 4 minutes (up from the usual 5-minute intervals)</li>
<li>The Kelana Jaya Line will see trains arriving every 5 minutes (reduced from 7 minutes)</li>

These frequency increases aim to reduce waiting times and overcrowding, ensuring that all passengers, whether commuting to work, attending summit events, or exploring the city, can travel comfortably and efficiently.
Additional Manpower and Operational Readiness
To ensure a high standard of service delivery throughout the summit period, Rapid KL has announced the deployment of 400 additional personnel across strategically selected rail stations. These staff members will be tasked with assisting passengers, providing guidance to ASEAN delegates, and maintaining order during peak times.
The transport operator also confirmed it will be actively monitoring passenger volumes and train operations in real time, with contingency measures in place should there be an unexpected surge in demand. Extra trains are on standby, ready to be dispatched if necessary.
This operational boost reflects Prasarana&rsquo;s commitment to providing a reliable and efficient transport system during one of the most important multilateral events hosted by Malaysia in recent years.
Bus Services Disrupted by Road Closures

ZUS Coffee Enters The Tea Game – And CHAGEE Might Just Be In Their Crosshairs

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has been grappling with widespread online service disruptions since late April, and now, serious allegations have emerged suggesting that the city&rsquo;s systems may have been the target of a major cyberattack. The incident has sparked public concern, parliamentary scrutiny, and mounting pressure on DBKL to provide a full and transparent explanation.
MP Tan Kok Wai Alleges Hacking and Ransom Demand

Cheras Member of Parliament (MP) Tan Kok Wai recently alleged that DBKL&rsquo;s online infrastructure was compromised by hackers who demanded a staggering USD55 million (~RM236 million) in ransom. According to Tan, this information came from a highly reliable source, though not directly from Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif. Nonetheless, he stated he had sufficient reason to believe the claim was credible.
Tan questioned the prolonged service disruption, arguing that if it were a routine technical glitch, it should not have taken more than three weeks to resolve. "This clearly points to a more severe issue than has been publicly acknowledged," he remarked.
Concerns Over Public Data and Communication Breakdown

Tan also criticised the lack of communication from DBKL. He said he contacted the Mayor&rsquo;s special assistant on 8 May requesting a meeting, but had not received any follow-up. "I&rsquo;m not just bringing this up for political reasons. My constituency&rsquo;s public facilities also need urgent attention. It has been ten days with no reply whatsoever," he said.
Other Members of Parliament have joined Tan in demanding answers. Seputeh MP Teresa Kok reported receiving public complaints over long queues at DBKL offices due to the digital outage. Meanwhile, Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng urged DBKL to issue a formal explanation about what has gone wrong with their systems.
Tan further noted that key internal meetings between MPs and the KL Mayor have not taken place. The last known consultation was on 15 April, and meetings scheduled for May have yet to occur. He expressed concern that DBKL&rsquo;s usual governance processes may be disrupted due to the IT system failures.
Impacted Services and Alternative Measures

The city hall said it has been working closely with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA) to address the issues. They stated that systems began gradually recovering from 1 May and that full restoration is anticipated by 23 May.

"The public has a right to know. DBKL cannot keep silent in the face of such a serious issue. It must take responsibility and assure citizens that their data and services are safe," said Tan.
A Crisis of Confidence
The incident has sparked a broader debate about cybersecurity readiness within public institutions. Questions are being raised about how DBKL safeguards sensitive data, how often its systems are audited, and whether it has robust contingency plans in place for cyberattacks.
Earlier in late March, Malaysia Airports was hit by a cyberattack and the government had called for the strengthening and investment in cybersecurity infrastructure to prevent similar incidents from happening.

Both scholarship schemes aim to fast-track the cultivation of expertise in high-demand areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data Science, Cybersecurity, the Internet of Things (IoT), Media, and Telecommunications. MCMC LEGASI: A Merit-Based Pathway to Global Education and Employment

<li>A minimum of 35 points in the International Baccalaureate (IB)</li>

MCMC CARE: Supporting Underprivileged Students in Public Universities
