Recently, Malaysia, perceived by many as relatively safe, has seen an uptick in crime, particularly concerning cases of murder. Currently, the unresolved murder of Zayn Rayyan awaits trial involving his mother. Additionally, the nation has been shocked by the tragic suicide of Malaysian TikToker Rajeswary Appahu, known as Esha, stemming from a cyberbullying incident.

However, there was also the chilling murder of Nur Farha Kartini Abdullah, a 25-year-old Sarawakian who disappeared on July 10 and was found in an oil palm plantation in Hulu Selangor on July 15.

For those unfamiliar with the case, Farah worked part-time at a car rental company and was last seen delivering a rental car to a customer in Tanjong Malim around 8am on the day she went missing. Reports indicate that after completing the delivery, she left in a red-coloured car, details of which her colleagues at the rental company were unaware of, including its model or registration number.
She remained reachable at that time, with her last communication with a colleague occurring at 8:41am. However, subsequent attempts to contact her via WhatsApp were unsuccessful, and she became unreachable thereafter.
Boyfriend Was Arrested For Being Connected With Her Murder

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan stated that on July 15, a 26-year-old policeman stationed at Slim River was called in for questioning. The suspect, who had been Farah's senior during their studies, subsequently led investigators to her body at Felda Gedangsa, Hulu Selangor.
The motive behind the murder is still under investigation. The suspect was presented at the Kuala Kubu Bharu Magistrate&rsquo;s Court and remanded for seven days under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Many were stunned to learn that the perpetrator of the crime was a policeman. Perak Police chief Datuk Azizi Mat Aris confirmed that the suspect is a lance corporal stationed at the Slim River police station and has been serving in the PDRM for five years.

Datuk Hussein Omar Khan also disclosed that, according to initial investigations by the PDRM, the location where the body was discovered is believed to be the primary crime scene. Furthermore, the Forensic Sub Aquatic unit was dispatched to the site and recovered Farah's smartphone from a drain in the palm oil estate after an hour-long dive today (17 July).
Additionally, the 26-year-old suspect was taken to the scene and confirmed that the phone belonged to Farah. Currently, efforts to search for additional evidence are ongoing.

Now, the question remains: how trustworthy are our law enforcement officers? The revelation that a police corporal was involved in Farah's murder is deeply unsettling. It raises concerns about the integrity of those tasked with upholding the law. What if the perpetrator had held a higher rank, potentially with more investigative experience? 
As the case progresses towards its conclusion, we hope for justice and closure for Farah's family. Moving forward, there's a critical need for rigorous hiring and training protocols within our law enforcement agencies to ensure such incidents are prevented in the future.
