That’s one fancy Nasi Lemak! But is it really worth the RM410 price tag?

Every Malaysian knows that our country is a true food haven, with each state boasting its own signature dish.

While it's no secret that food prices have been rising due to the current economy, that hasn’t stopped Malaysians from making headlines for splurging on extravagant meals. One of the most notable examples is the Nasi Kandar record set in Penang, where, in September, a customer spent RM400 on a feast just for himself.

Aside from Nasi Kandar, another beloved dish is Nasi Lemak, a staple for breakfast or a go-to late-night craving for Malaysians. Its rich flavours come from fragrant, coconut-infused rice, sweet or spicy sambal, and a simple egg—if you're a fan of the classic version. Over the years, many vendors have started offering premium add-ons, elevating the humble dish to a more indulgent experience.

Terengganu Nasi Lemak Store Goes Viral For RM410 Nasi Lemak

Recently, a viral TikTok video by @juraidamamad2 sparked conversation online after it featured an eye-popping RM410 nasi lemak order. The clip showcases Umi Nasi Lemak, a vendor in Besut, Terengganu, as they prepare and pack the lavish nasi lemak meal for two customers.

This wasn't your typical nasi lemak, as the RM410 price tag suggests. What made it so expensive was the premium seafood that came with it. Since Terengganu is known for its fresh seafood, the customer splurged on:

  • 2 Lobsters
  • 2 Large stuffed squids
  • 3 Prawns
  • Fish roe
  • 2 Fried chickens
  • Sambal quail eggs

That’s quite the feast! If you’re wondering, the lobsters alone cost RM180 each, which significantly contributed to the hefty price of this nasi lemak.

Netizens Had Mixed Opinions About The Meal

At the time of writing, the TikTok video had garnered over 1.6 million views, leaving many regular nasi lemak fans surprised by the idea of customers willing to spend such a large amount on the dish.

In the comments, several netizens pointed out that the price of this nasi lemak could easily cover their family's grocery expenses. However, others praised the vendor for being creative and offering unique, premium dishes that aren’t typically available at most nasi lemak stalls.

Here’s some of the comments:

When you really think about it, paying RM410 for nasi lemak with two lobsters, squid, prawns, and chicken isn’t as outrageous as it sounds, especially considering how pricey seafood can be.

That said, we’re not here to judge how anyone chooses to spend their money. If you’ve got the means, why not treat yourself once in a while?

If the opportunity arises (and money’s not a concern), we’re sure plenty of Malaysians would love to try this fancy seafood nasi lemak. Or, they might prefer to spend that sum on something else entirely—either way, it’s all about personal choice.
