With Covid-19 vaccinations being rolled out properly all over the world and economy is returning to normal, it only means one thing. Borders are opening up and we can finally go on holidays again!

Recently, Singapore has now given more flexibilities for Malaysians to enter the country and now we have Thailand reopening their borders to vaccinated Malaysians!

Malaysia has finally hit more than 90% vaccination of the adult population, the interstate and international travel ban has been lifted for those fully vaccinated individuals. Before this, only those for studies, business and emergency purposes were able to travel abroad and now everyone can go abroad for leisure holidays after being stuck in Malaysia for over a year.

But do note though, there is still a list of countries Malaysians can travel to. Currently, the list is pretty limited due to the strict Covid-19 measures which is implemented across the globe.
Thai authorities had announced on 21 October that their borders are reopening to 46 countries starting on 1 November 2021. They are looking forward to welcoming visitors from low-risk countries and territories across the globe.
Time to count them leaves and travel over for a well-deserved holiday!

What are the rules for travelling to Thailand?

For those who want to visit Thailand, you&rsquo;ll need to be fully vaccinated (duh). Aside from that, travellers from low-risk countries will be allowed to travel to Thailand under a quarantine-free travel arrangement. PCR tests will be required upon arrival to Thailand. You&rsquo;ll be staying for a night at an approved hotel while waiting for results.
The most popular places such as Bangkok, Hua Hin, Pattaya, Krabi, Koh Chang and Chang Mai have been granted the green light to open. Phuket meanwhile has already been opened since July under the &ldquo;Phuket Sandbox&rdquo; scheme.

Thailand To Open Borders To Low-Risk Countries From 1 November 2021 Onwards!

Online applications for the 2025 JPA-MARA Special Programme are now officially open, starting 28 April 2025 at 2.00 pm and will close on Sunday, 11 May 2025 at 5.00 pm.
The announcement was made via a post on the official Facebook page of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), encouraging eligible students to seize this opportunity promptly.
Convertible Loan Sponsorship for Outstanding Bumiputera Students

<li>Health Requirements:</li>

<li>Applicants must be free from any chronic, infectious diseases, or medical conditions requiring continuous treatment, and must be certified medically fit to complete their studies.</li>
</ul>
<li>Blacklist Status:</li>
<ul>
<li>Neither the applicant, nor their parents, should be blacklisted by the Public Service Department (JPA) or involved in any ongoing legal action against JPA.</li>
</ul>
<li>Sponsorship Status:</li>
<ul>
<li>Applicants who are successfully offered this sponsorship must not be in receipt of any other financial aid or scholarships for studies at the same academic level.</li>
</ul>
<li>SPM Examination:</li>
<ul>
<li>Candidates must have sat for the SPM 2024 examination for the first time, either through a government secondary school or as a private candidate.</li>
</ul>
<li>Age Limit:</li>
<ul>
<li>Applicants must be below 19 years old as of 31 December 2024.</li>

A Malaysian woman&rsquo;s routine day turned into a nightmare when she discovered that a vital component of her car had been stolen &mdash; despite parking it in a paid, supposedly secure facility. The incident, which occurred on 22 April at the Awan Besar LRT station, has since sparked wider concerns over vehicle security at public transport parking lots in Kuala Lumpur.
The woman had parked her Toyota at approximately 7am before proceeding to work as usual. Upon returning to retrieve her car around 7pm, she was met with an unexpected mechanical issue. As she turned the ignition key, she was startled by a loud "boom" sound emanating from beneath her vehicle. Alarmed and fearing that the engine had suffered serious damage, she quickly shut off the engine and tried again, only to encounter the same noise.
Investigation Reveals Catalytic Converter Theft

Unsure of the problem, the woman enlisted the help of bystanders and conducted a closer inspection. A visual check revealed deep scratch marks along the undercarriage, a tell-tale sign of tampering. It was soon confirmed that the car's catalytic converter &mdash; a key component responsible for filtering harmful emissions &mdash; had been forcibly removed.
Without this essential part, her car was rendered immobile, compounding her distress as she faced the challenge of arranging immediate repairs while stranded at the station.
The discovery came as a devastating blow, particularly as she had assumed that a paid parking area operated by a major transport company would offer basic security measures against theft.
High-Value Target for Thieves

Containing precious metals such as platinum, rhodium, and palladium, catalytic converters can fetch high prices, making them an attractive target for criminals. Removal can be executed swiftly with basic tools, and in less than ten minutes, a thief can escape with a component worth thousands.
&ldquo;The foreman told me a brand-new catalytic converter could cost over RM4,000," the woman said in her post. &ldquo;Now, I&rsquo;m forced to fork out even more money just to get my car running again.&rdquo;
Financial and Emotional Impact

&ldquo;I worked so hard to save every bit of money, only for it to be spent like this," she lamented, adding that the incident had severely disrupted her plans and peace of mind.
The emotional toll was compounded by a growing anxiety about the safety of her vehicle &mdash; and indeed, of any vehicle &mdash; left unattended in public parking areas, regardless of whether parking fees are paid.
Disillusionment with Paid Parking Facilities

Her experience has cast a spotlight on the vulnerabilities that exist even in supposedly monitored parking zones, where limited surveillance and minimal patrolling make vehicles easy targets for opportunistic thieves.
Police Report Lodged, but Few Answers

In addition, she contacted RapidKL, the operator responsible for the Awan Besar LRT parking facilities, to report the matter and inquire about security measures. At the time of her post, she stated that she had not yet received any formal response or assistance from the company.
Growing Concern Over Catalytic Converter Theft in Malaysia

Calls for Improved Security Measures
In the wake of the incident, many are calling for better security infrastructure at public parking areas, especially those operated alongside critical transport services. Suggestions have included installing more CCTV cameras with active monitoring, increasing security patrols, and ensuring rapid response capabilities when suspicious activities are detected.
Some have even suggested that parking operators offer insurance options or guarantees as part of their service, to provide recourse for customers who fall victim to theft within their premises.
For now, however, many commuters are left to fend for themselves &mdash; relying on personal vigilance and aftermarket security solutions in the hopes of avoiding similar losses.

M’sian Woman Left Disillusioned After Catalytic Converter Stolen From Her Car At LRT Station Parking Lot

The Kuala Lumpur&ndash;Karak Highway, a crucial artery connecting the capital to the eastern states, has long been a favourite weekend playground for motor enthusiasts. Its sweeping bends and picturesque mountain views attract convoys of high-powered motorcycles and spirited motorists seeking the thrill of open-road riding.
Yet, despite its appeal, authorities have continually reminded the public that such stretches are not substitutes for a racetrack. Public roads carry unpredictable risks &mdash; from potholes and loose gravel to sudden weather changes &mdash; making reckless behaviour a dangerous gamble.
Last Sunday (27 April), a series of crashes involving high-powered motorcycles at KM43.4 of the eastbound highway near Bentong served as a stark reminder of these dangers.
Dramatic Crash Captured on Camera

A chilling video of the incident, recorded on a helmet-mounted camera, swiftly went viral across social media platforms, sparking concern among road users and safety advocates alike.
In the footage, the camera wearer can be seen approaching a sharp bend when a motorcyclist ahead leans heavily into the corner. Midway through the turn, the rider&rsquo;s bike suddenly loses grip and lowsides, sending both man and machine sliding across the asphalt and into the grass verge.
As the cameraman pulls over in the emergency lane to offer assistance, a second rider, perhaps caught out by the same road conditions or distracted by the incident, suffers a similar fate. His motorcycle slides violently across the road towards the stationary rider, narrowly avoiding a direct collision.
Mere seconds later, a third motorcyclist skids into view, his bike scraping along the tarmac and throwing up sparks before slamming into the roadside barrier. The rider himself is seen tumbling along the ground before coming to rest near the crash site.

One Rider Injured, Two Others Missing

Following the crash, one of the riders was able to be located by authorities and was found to have sustained injuries to his right leg. According to Bentong District Police Chief, Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar, the injured rider is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
However, attempts to contact the other two riders involved have so far been unsuccessful. The Bentong District Police Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division is actively working to track them down for their statements.
Superintendent Zaiham confirmed that initial investigations suggest all three motorcycles lost control while attempting to navigate the bend, resulting in them skidding and crashing into the drain located on the left shoulder of the highway.
Investigation Underway

The case is currently being investigated under Section 43 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving. If found guilty, the individuals involved could face a fine of up to RM10,000 and/or imprisonment for up to 12 months.
Authorities are also appealing for witnesses who may have been present during the accident to come forward and assist with the investigation, emphasising the importance of public cooperation in ensuring the case is handled swiftly and thoroughly.
The Dangers of Treating Public Roads Like Racetracks

Sunday&rsquo;s accident highlights a concerning trend among certain groups of motorists and bikers who treat public highways as venues for high-speed thrills.
Unlike a closed track, highways present countless variables &mdash; other vehicles, changing surface conditions, debris, and sudden obstacles &mdash; that make high-speed riding exponentially more dangerous. Even experienced riders are not immune to the unexpected, as seen in the viral video where consecutive accidents occurred within mere seconds of each other.
The Kuala Lumpur&ndash;Karak Highway has, in the past, been the site of numerous serious accidents, particularly involving motorcycles. The combination of high-powered machines, overconfidence, and lack of respect for road conditions has repeatedly proven a deadly mix.

Intrigued by the sight, they decided to book the same service for their celebration the following evening, paying RM2,000 for a meal meant for 40 people.
From Feast to Food Poisoning in Hours

The meal commenced at 6 PM on 1st February, and the group eagerly tucked in, expecting a delightful dining experience. However, just four hours later, disaster struck. More than ten people in the group began suffering from extreme vomiting and diarrhoea&mdash;undeniable signs of food poisoning. As the night progressed, the severity of the symptoms escalated, and by morning, two members had to be rushed to the hospital for intravenous drips, while others sought treatment at nearby clinics.
The repercussions of the incident went beyond health issues. Several group members were forced to take sick leave from work, while children attending international schools had to miss classes. The financial burden from medical expenses, combined with lost productivity, only added to their distress.
A Struggle for Accountability

Determined to seek justice, Joey contacted the food truck company, requesting a full refund of RM2,000 and additional reimbursement of RM3,375 for medical expenses incurred by the group. However, her efforts were met with denial and deflection. The company refused to take responsibility, instead shifting the blame onto the driver, claiming that he had accepted the booking independently without official company authorisation.
Joey was not convinced by this explanation. She had personally witnessed the driver calling the company to confirm the booking before proceeding. Adding to her suspicions, she pointed out that the food truck that arrived for their event was different from the one they had initially seen at the neighbouring villa.
In a further attempt to absolve itself, the company suggested that the food poisoning might have resulted from something the group had consumed earlier in the day. However, Joey quickly dismissed this claim. She explained that the group had split into five separate clusters throughout the day, each eating different meals&mdash;with some even skipping lunch entirely&mdash;yet every single person who ate the lok lok that evening fell ill.
A Wider Food Safety Concern

&ldquo;If this particular lok lok truck had been operating at a pasar malam, how many more people would have gotten food poisoning? Would they also blame it on other food and let the matter go?&rdquo; she asked.
She did not hold back in criticising the company&rsquo;s handling of the situation, calling their response &ldquo;irresponsible&rdquo; and highlighting the gravity of food poisoning incidents.
&ldquo;Food poisoning is not something to take lightly. I am sharing this publicly to put pressure on the business because of their irresponsibility and lack of concern for hygiene. I can accept the financial loss, but what I want is empathy,&rdquo; she wrote.

As Hari Raya Aidilfitri approaches, Malaysians are eagerly preparing for celebrations by stocking up on kuih Raya, a staple for welcoming guests. However, this cherished tradition is set to become more expensive, as vendors warn of a sharp price increase due to escalating costs of raw materials, particularly coconut milk.
A recent survey at Pasar Kubang Pasu in Kelantan found that three to five pieces of kuih Raya are still being sold for RM2. However, this price, which has remained unchanged for the past four years, is expected to rise by as much as 25% after Aidilfitri. This means consumers may soon have to pay RM2.50 for the same quantity.
Coconut Milk Prices Behind the Increase

Despite this, kuih vendors have been holding off on price hikes in an effort to keep their products affordable.
"We feel bad about increasing kuih prices, but we have no choice. If we stick to the old prices, we won&rsquo;t make any profit," he said.
Tarmizi also highlighted the unpredictable nature of kuih sales. "Some days, everything sells out, and on other days, it doesn&rsquo;t. If it doesn&rsquo;t sell, we are left with nothing but exhaustion," he added, expressing the challenges faced by small vendors.
Possible Further Price Hikes During Ramadan

Unfortunately, the situation may worsen as coconut milk prices are expected to rise even further during Ramadan. Coconut milk vendor Muhammad Nor Akmal Jaafar stated that due to difficulties in sourcing fresh coconuts, prices could climb to RM20 per kilogram during the fasting month.
He explained that suppliers rely on coconuts imported from Indonesia, which cost between RM3.30 and RM3.40 per piece. However, transportation delays often result in some coconuts arriving rotten, increasing production costs and reducing supply.
"For now, I am selling coconut milk at RM13 per kilogram because I don&rsquo;t have the heart to charge more. But if coconut prices continue to rise, sellers might have to increase the price to RM20 per kilogram during Ramadan," he warned.
Uncertain Outlook for Kuih Prices
