Ramadan Bazaars To Offer Menu Rahmah

To address the financial challenges faced by the public, the government will require Ramadan bazaars to include Menu Rahmah during the fasting month. Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Fuziah Salleh emphasized that her ministry will actively promote this initiative, originally introduced by the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, the former minister of domestic trade and cost of living who passed away in July last year.
Menu Rahmah offers lunch or dinner sets at a recommended price of RM5, comprising rice, a protein choice (such as chicken or fish), vegetables, and a bottle of mineral water. Despite facing initial criticism, the program garnered positive responses from consumers, including those from the middle-income category.
For the promotion of Menu Rahmah, Fauziah Salleh says they have allocated a specific budget that will be actively commencing this Ramadan as they intend to feature the Menu Rahmah prominently in Ramadan bazaars nationwide. She also expressed that for a Ramadan Bazaar to be entitled as a proper Ramadan Bazaar, it will be a must for it to offer the Menu Rahmah.
&ldquo;So, in the whole bazaar, there must be a certain percentage of traders who offer Menu Rahmah. We are not making it mandatory for every stall to offer, but what we are saying is that a certain portion or a certain percentage of the operators of the Ramadan bazaar need to offer Menu Rahmah,&rdquo; she said.

In the previous month, the Ministry of Finance (MoF) disclosed specifics about its tax reforms, unveiling an adjustment in the sales and service tax (SST) from 6 per cent to 8 per cent, which became effective on March 1 this year. The anticipated outcome of this increase is an additional estimated revenue of RM3 billion.
Execution Without Any Prior Allocation

In addressing the implementation of the Menu Rahmah initiative, Fuziah clarified that her ministry carried out the initiative under the broader 'Payung Rahmah' program without a dedicated budget for Menu Rahmah specifically. She explained that the allocated budget was intended for the overall Payung Rahmah initiative, and there was no distinct budget allocation specifically earmarked for Menu Rahmah.
Fuziah highlighted that the budget, amounting to over RM150 million, was primarily allocated for 'Jualan Rahmah,' another program by KPDN offering discounts on daily necessities, aiming for prices up to 30% cheaper than the regular market rates throughout 2023. While there was some allocation for promoting Menu Rahmah, it did not cover the execution of Menu Rahmah itself. Jualan Rahmah, designed to provide year-round low-price sales, focuses on offering significant price discounts for those in low-income areas nationwide.
Speaking about Menu Rahmah, Fuziah emphasized that it was one of the rapid initiatives introduced by the ministry to address the high inflation rate in November 2022. At that time, the inflation rate stood at around 4%, with the prominent contributors being food consumed outside and inside the home. Menu Rahmah primarily targeted the aspect of food consumed outside the home, offering affordable options at RM5. Fuziah emphasized that the initiative was private-driven, supported by the government, and its success stemmed from the voluntary participation of restaurant owners, contributing to the goal of sharing blessings during challenging economic times.

Shopee sellers are bracing for yet another increase in operational costs as the e-commerce platform confirmed a hike in its SPayLater seller fee. The change, set to take effect on 8 May 2025, will see the fee rise from 3.5% to 4.5% for all completed orders involving the SPayLater payment option.
The update was announced through Shopee&rsquo;s official Seller Education Hub, continuing a trend of rising charges for merchants using the platform.
What Is SPayLater?

Instalments up to three months typically carry no extra fees for buyers, but longer tenures can incur charges of up to 36%, depending on the duration.
However, while buyers may choose whether or not to use SPayLater, sellers are automatically enrolled in the programme with no option to opt out. This means they must absorb the associated transaction fee regardless of whether they benefit directly from the instalment feature.
Why Are Sellers Frustrated?

A number of sellers have even suggested raising their prices to cushion the impact of the new fee, potentially making Shopee less competitive for buyers as a result.
Sellers Speak Out: &ldquo;It&rsquo;s Getting Too Much&rdquo;
Among those voicing concern is Loh, a power tool seller who requested partial anonymity. Speaking to local media, Loh said that the compounding cost of selling on Shopee&mdash;including this new SPayLater fee&mdash;is driving him to reconsider the platform entirely.
&ldquo;My business has to contend with more and more extra fees, and I&rsquo;d need to hire someone just to operate and manage the sales channel,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;That&rsquo;s pushed my business away from focusing too much effort towards selling on Shopee.&rdquo;
A Pattern of Increasing Charges

Anwar acknowledged the concern and said the idea warranted serious consideration. He confirmed that discussions would soon be held with Transport Minister Anthony Loke to evaluate how the scheme could be adapted to better serve students throughout the country&mdash;not just those travelling between East and West Malaysia.
"As for FLYSiswa in the peninsula, I&rsquo;ll discuss it with the Transport Minister,&rdquo; Anwar said. &ldquo;Perhaps for certain areas or specific locations, we can look into implementing it. The needs of students in the peninsula are just as important and deserve to be reviewed.&rdquo;
What is FLYSiswa?

"We need to ensure that ticket prices remain reasonable and that there is no price exploitation," the Prime Minister stressed. &ldquo;If a ticket usually costs RM20 and suddenly doubles during a festive season, that&rsquo;s unacceptable. The government is duty-bound to intervene and create mechanisms to prevent such unreasonable hikes.&rdquo;
He added that while airline fare regulation falls under the purview of market forces, there must be a balance to prevent profit-maximising practices from disadvantaging those who can least afford them.
Inclusion of Land Transport Would Mark Major Shift

According to legal documents and media interviews, Obor Holding Sdn Bhd&mdash;the owner of headscarf brand Feline Malaysia&mdash;is taking legal action against Fazura&rsquo;s company, alleging a debt of RM4.65 million stemming from unpaid supplies.
Legal Dispute Over Unpaid Hijab Orders

Pink Fate is widely associated with the Tudung Fazura brand, a popular hijab line co-founded by the celebrity herself. The claim further alleges that payment collection became increasingly difficult from December 2023 onwards, despite repeated reminders and attempts to settle the issue amicably.
Fazura and Family Named as Defendants

Obor Holding claims that in mid-2024, five additional headscarf orders were placed, amounting to RM3.6 million, despite the company already being in arrears. These new orders were said to be part of the &ldquo;Merdeka Collection&rdquo;, a joint initiative with the Ministry of Education to commemorate Malaysia&rsquo;s 67th Independence Day. According to the claim, Faiz had assured the manufacturer that the orders were backed by government funding.
To bolster confidence, Faiz and Fazura reportedly referenced collaborations with well-established institutions such as Boh Plantations (BOH), Movenpick Hotel, and the National Cancer Institute (IKN), as proof of their financial capability and credibility. This reassurance allegedly led Obor Holding to continue fulfilling orders in good faith.
Cheque Bounce Deepens Financial Blow

All transactions referenced in the lawsuit reportedly occurred while Fazura was still a director of Pink Fate. She later stepped down in January 2025, but her brother Faiz remains actively involved in the company&rsquo;s management. In response to the ongoing non-payment, Obor Holding has initiated proceedings to obtain a Judgment in Default, as no response was filed by the defendants within the required legal timeframe.
Founder Expresses Frustration Over &lsquo;False Promises&rsquo;

&ldquo;We have tried every possible method to reach them,&rdquo; said Lim. &ldquo;Since late 2023, it&rsquo;s been nearly impossible to recover the payments. Our financial position has suffered significantly because of this.&rdquo;
Lim also lamented that despite Fazura&rsquo;s public persona as a reputable figure, her company has allegedly failed to honour basic commercial commitments. &ldquo;I never expected someone as influential and well-known as Fazura to leave us hanging like this. We&rsquo;re not asking for favours&mdash;just the payment for goods we&rsquo;ve delivered.&rdquo;
He added that while he remains open to settling the matter outside court, the lack of cooperation from the other side has left him with no alternative. &ldquo;This is not the path we wanted to take. But their refusal to engage has forced us into legal proceedings.&rdquo;
Manufacturer Warns Others: &lsquo;Don&rsquo;t Be Misled by Popularity&rsquo;
Lim expressed concern that other small or medium-sized businesses might fall into similar traps when dealing with celebrity-backed ventures. &ldquo;Don&rsquo;t be too easily swayed by fame or influence. We&rsquo;ve learnt a painful lesson,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;I wouldn&rsquo;t have gone public if our claims weren&rsquo;t legitimate. This is about fairness and survival.&rdquo;
He stressed that his company had operated in good faith, trusting in the reputation of Fazura and her associates. However, what started as a promising partnership has turned into a legal and financial nightmare for Obor Holding and its manufacturing subsidiary, Feline Malaysia.

Attempts to obtain comments from Fazura, her brother, and her management team have so far gone unanswered. Intrigued by the sight, they decided to book the same service for their celebration the following evening, paying RM2,000 for a meal meant for 40 people.
From Feast to Food Poisoning in Hours

The meal commenced at 6 PM on 1st February, and the group eagerly tucked in, expecting a delightful dining experience. However, just four hours later, disaster struck. More than ten people in the group began suffering from extreme vomiting and diarrhoea&mdash;undeniable signs of food poisoning. As the night progressed, the severity of the symptoms escalated, and by morning, two members had to be rushed to the hospital for intravenous drips, while others sought treatment at nearby clinics.
The repercussions of the incident went beyond health issues. Several group members were forced to take sick leave from work, while children attending international schools had to miss classes. The financial burden from medical expenses, combined with lost productivity, only added to their distress.
A Struggle for Accountability

Determined to seek justice, Joey contacted the food truck company, requesting a full refund of RM2,000 and additional reimbursement of RM3,375 for medical expenses incurred by the group. However, her efforts were met with denial and deflection. The company refused to take responsibility, instead shifting the blame onto the driver, claiming that he had accepted the booking independently without official company authorisation.
Joey was not convinced by this explanation. She had personally witnessed the driver calling the company to confirm the booking before proceeding. Adding to her suspicions, she pointed out that the food truck that arrived for their event was different from the one they had initially seen at the neighbouring villa.
In a further attempt to absolve itself, the company suggested that the food poisoning might have resulted from something the group had consumed earlier in the day. However, Joey quickly dismissed this claim. She explained that the group had split into five separate clusters throughout the day, each eating different meals&mdash;with some even skipping lunch entirely&mdash;yet every single person who ate the lok lok that evening fell ill.

&ldquo;If this particular lok lok truck had been operating at a pasar malam, how many more people would have gotten food poisoning? Would they also blame it on other food and let the matter go?&rdquo; she asked.
She did not hold back in criticising the company&rsquo;s handling of the situation, calling their response &ldquo;irresponsible&rdquo; and highlighting the gravity of food poisoning incidents.
&ldquo;Food poisoning is not something to take lightly. I am sharing this publicly to put pressure on the business because of their irresponsibility and lack of concern for hygiene. I can accept the financial loss, but what I want is empathy,&rdquo; she wrote.
